I bought an 8 ball bible from the Beard and a few other books because our local Barnes and Noble doesn't have a single pool book in the building. He ships fast and they were autographed. Thanks again.

Probably a dumb question, but are any of these books written for 8-ball on a 9-footer, versus the barbox? There was some mention about this earleir in the thread...

I know we're strange up here in the wilderness, but all we have is 9-footers, at least where anyone plays regularly. All of our league stuff is done on 9-footers, all over the state (at least as I understand it. I haven't played all the different rooms yet, but I've played in rooms in four different divisions, and at states; all 9-footers).

If there is indeed a difference in the writing (and strategy) for the barbox versus the 9-footer in these books, that would make a big difference in my deciding to purchase (or more) of these.

Givens, from what I recall. Haven't read it in awhile, but remember thinking he did a fine job on it. He gave a signed copy to my buddy when he won an IPT qualifier in SF years ago.

Cappelle's books are excellent...for beginner to intermediate level players. I can't help but think that every A player I know already knows almost everything in his books, though. Especially if you're an accu-stats collector.

Monks book? Meh, I just haven't liked any of those books put out by Monk. Sorry. Schwartz pamphlet book on the game is better than this.

I can't recall if I have seen Reid's tape or not. Its probably buried in the ten boxes of old pool tapes in the garage somewhere.

Advanced players are still better off getting 99 shots, Freddie's books to help with key banks, or maybe even some of the Billiard Atlas books for kicking (carom books, but some really good stuff in them you can't find elsewhere)

8-ball bible is particularly for barboxes I know.

My best

I have several books on pool & enjoy reading all of them. My fravorite is probably Play Your Best Pool by Phil Capelle. I believe it explain's pool in a simple way that anyone can understand. This book covers just about everything most pool players should know, & great illustrations. The next book I would recommend is Banking With The Beard. This book is everything you wanted to know about bank shooting & great illustrations also. I believe if anyone wants to improve at 8 or 9 ball they should have these 2 books... But Illustrated Principles Of Pool and Billiards is a good book because your able to go online and watch the video of what's really going on with shots. My top "3"
