Who's your favorite custom cue maker, whym and how does it shoot?

There have been some cues (sneaky petes) from Pat Diveney on ebay recently- butterfly splice on butt end. I got one and liked it so much, I sold my other cues.

It plays great, the shaft is my favorite part. It has a really consistent feeling, solid, accurate, you pick the synonym. The finish is incredible and, IMO, it is a top-notch cue.

I think you should all email him- website is empty, but:

They have been going for as much as $250 w/ 1 shaft, but I (for some reason) think you could get one for less through the maker, as opposed to ebay. And an extra shaft you ask? $75!! I haven't seen better either!

I have never had the opportunity to play with the cues that I drewl over. So going on the basis of looks, Tad is one of my favorites. Paul Drexler, Samsara and Kikel make some amazing pieces of art.

I have a toss-up between McDaniel and Scruggs, though I'm leaning more toward McDaniel.

Mike Bender.. Excellent workmanship and his cues plays awesome. I have 5 of them, 2 sneakies, 1 mid range, 2 higher end cues. :D

cue makers

I'm sure all cues are different and even though some cuemakers may be more consistent in turning out good hitting cues than others, I would suppose even a Tad has made a cue that didnt hit good. If I had to pick a cuemaker that consistently puts out a cue that hits the way I prefer I would have to say Southwest. It's been rare that I have hit with one that didnt feel like a southwest should. Joe Gold also makes excellent hitting cues. Rare to find a cog that doesnt really hit well either. But this is just my opinion of what kind of hits I like.

I haven't hit with a lot of cues but I have played some really nice production and custom cues and my favorite is an older sneaky pete by Mike Webb. It is my buddies cue and the thing hits a ton. He bought it a while back and I don't think you could pick up a shaft for the price he got that cue for. I know Mike posts here and take it from me, this guy makes a beautiful hitting cue.

Kersenbrock for the hit.

I like PFD and Murray Tuckers cues as well. I have not been able to see alot
of either of their work but what I have saw and hit with was very good.
I am currently getting a cue made by Ariel Carmeli. He makes very good cues and does not put out any crap. Many cuemakers putout a few mistakes or not up to par cues for them to make some money. I like the guys that put out only quality work.
There are many good cue makers now. Its hard to have one favorite.

Edwin Reyes make some of the nicest looking cues I have ever seen and does it with very little modern equipment. I have not had the pleasure to hit with one yet.

wow, good question. my top four(in no order) would have to be Tad,Josswest, Perry Weston and Kershenbrach. if i had to pick one it would be a toss up between Tad(my current cue) and kersh. for playing. for looks my Weston was #1, all gaboon ebony and ivory.

So, how would you say a DP or Frey cue fits in to the mix? How about a Phoenix? What are your preferred weights and shaft dimensions?

I can't speak of the above makers because I haven't played with one of their cues but as far as dimensions I definitely prefer a thinner than stock shaft, probably around 12.5mm with a weight of around 19 to 19.5. Another feature that I have realized to be of importance to me is cue length. Too often I have to break out the bridge where if my cue were only an inch longer it wouldn't be a problem. I think 59 - 60 inches would be perfect.

I hear Frey's are excellent cues but it is only from other people. If his cues are anything like the OLDER Meucci Originals then I would say it is a quality cue.

Tad, Hagancue, Prewitt, Zylr and Edwin Reyes.
If anyone makes a more solid cue than Zylr and Reyes, I'd buy one from the maker.

I have two high end Dale Perrys and I love them. The cues hits so well and the beauty is fantastic. I purchased one of his cues on the net and just fell in love. Then I called him and had a custom cue made and it was MORE than I expected at a great price. Dale is also very nice to work with. And one thing that I loved the most...the wait time for my cue was very short indeed.I would love to hear of of Dale Perry owners and their opinions.

Thanks,

Jerico. Incredible customer service and the sweetest feeling and sounding hit I ever experienced. The hit reminds me of golf and baseball when you hit it so pure you feel nothing but the ball itself, like you weren't using a club or bat at all. And you don't get that awful twangy sound when you are really trying to juice up the cue ball. I've even heard that twang from some matches on tv and it turns me off, big time.

Cognoscenti is by far is Bob's favorite. Joey Gold made him a beautiful stick many years ago. Then I have a Bludworth that Leonard made for me.

Eydie

If you have a chance to try Michael Capone's cues, I'd strongly recommend that ! I have owned one of his cues and the hit was extremely solid. He is a young guy and already has proven himself in the cuemaker industry. World Champion Mika Immonen also uses his cues...
