Ok I was just looking for some thoughts on how to handle a problem i have had in the past since i have all but stopped gambling on pool and went strickly to tourny play. Ill outline the problem that happened to me and how I dealt with the problem.

Player X walks up to me and asks me to gamble some cheap sets for $100.

I reply no ty im not interested.

Player X keeps barking at me and really starting to bother me saying he is younger and it should be a good match.

I reply no ty i stopped gambling im jsut here for the tourny.

Player X CONTINUES to talk trash and give me grief with his friends there helping to keep it stirred up.

I have finally had enough and tell him to stand on his head and what ever falls out is what we will bet.

Player X laughs and says sure but then he asks why im putting my cues up.

I reply cause i told you i dont want to gamble so me and you will take this outside and that wont be gambling for me.

Player X gets bent out of shape and asks me what MY problem is .

OOOOKKKKKKK looking back it was kinda silly for me to ask him outside ( and i did not exclude his friends if they wanted to join in) but i had jsut taken all i could and it seemed i was the BAD GUY in the room for gettign tired of this kids ego and mouth. As i said looking back i could have done diffrently but at the moment it was the best thing my poor old mind could come up with.

Just looking for your thoughts not just people to scream YEAH YOU WERE RIGHT and such. And if you have had to deal with this type problem before.

ty in advance

I think you played it well. Witty remark. Bodilly injury threat. No blood or money lost.

Nagging ...

Well, I gamble, but there are times I don't care to,
so I always reply, "I don't have the money", and that
ends it right there. He is thinks he can and is trying
to get your money, so if you just tell him you don't
have what he wants, he will move on to another 'mark'.

or, if he pisses me off and I do have the money, I might
fire back at him, "No, let's play $300 sets with a minimum
of 3 set put up with no adjustments on the game". That,
also, will shut them up, either that, or you might be $900
richer.

LOL good idea on the broke part and for me at times that isnt far from the truth with wife and 2 kids ahahahahaha.

This has happened to me a few times over the years. If I don't want to play for money at that particular time or against that particular player I just tell them NO. If they keep it up I complain to the room owner/manager. This has worked every time. I love the motto at the bottom of your window. Happy indeed! Maybe your motto is the key. Explain that you'll be very happy when they leave.

I think you handled it well too. Sorry to hear that you packed it in, but I woulda done the same probably. a-holes kinda make you lose your taste for the game.

Maybe you should have asked him if he wanted to blow you some, cheap. (PAss if he says yes!!)

Oh, and get a good player to come to town and bust his a$$ or feed him a bunch of 'no gamble' crap. I see TN is your zone- who can help the dude out?

Yeah, that crap happens all the time. Fastest I ever shut up barking was a young kid in Memphis. He keeps woofing at me after I've told him numerous "NO". Finally, he bows up and says, in a very smart ass tone, "What's the matter Old Man? You don't have any gamble in ya?" Keep in mind this kid is all of 5'6" 140 pounds, so my 6'4" 280lb frame gets close enough that his nose is in my chest, look down and say, "Son, if I want any shit out of you, I'll just squeeze your head with these size 16 fingers, til it pops... now go away... don't talk to me anymore." He complied. I guess his brand of woofing goes over well in Memphis... where I'm from, it doesn't, and I've been on this old earth long enough that punks like that should, IMO, just respect me when I say no and walk away.

Bob

Damn, JBell, didn't notice you were from Tennesee? Might have been the same kid... if it was, next time tell him you have this friend from Oklahoma that wants to squeeze his head! :)

well Player X is a VERY talented young player from the memphis area and he will bet HIGH and he doesnt shake but he is the type also that would never attack lets say Bobby Pickle , Fargo or any good player close to his level without the NUTS.

Sad thing was on that day i was down to the last 4 on the winners side of the tourny and first was worth $1250 tourny & about $2200 auction but i still made enough to pay for my day and have alittle left in my pocket.

CANE you described him perfectly and im betting its the same KID. kinda looks like Eminem LOL

Yeah, same kid, I bet. I did turn my travelling buddy, Darryl C (aka Seabiscuit) on him for BarBox 6 ahead for $200, but it was during a tourney and they wouldn't open the BarBox and put them on time, so after several hours, with the penny still in the center of the head rail, they quit. The kid and a guy from Little Rock start woofing again, so I just tell the LR guy (name is Bobby something... can't remember his name, but he's a real pain in the ass), you wanna gamble, we put up 5C each on a race to 7 big table and get it done. I think I acted a little too anxious! LOL

Damn, Wish I could remember the name of that room. It was just off of 240 in a strip mall, had a really good Mexican Eatery right next to it in the mall. Prof QBall has several Scotch Doubles tournaments there. Decent room, most of the guys in there were really nice and polite... except this kid...

BTW, We call Darryl "Seabiscuit" because he's too crippled up, too fat, too old, too short, but still runs a Helluva good race! :)

Later,
Bob

PS: Next time I come to Memphis to play, we need to get together. We don't really know anyone there, and it's always good to make new pool friends.

Sounds good cane you guys come to memphis i know all the players and their playing speeds for the area i live about 45 minutes east of memphis in jackson Tn . The poolroom you were in is called Billiards East its a hangout for the YOUNG GUNS of memphis i tend to stay away from it. They are having a nice size tourny at memphis coming up in a week or 2 at Samples Place ( Used to be "The Rack"). Im thinking its $125 entry and $5000 1st place with a full field . Its played on valley barboxs with a redcircle fast cloth and EASY pockets, I call them RUNOUT Tables lol. Im not sure ill make it to the tourny but if you decide to go give me a pm here or email me ill drive up just to say hello.
