With the criteria of tournaments won, gambling, playing well under pressure, and consistency and an all around game. Who has the best credentials on their resume. I will start on my top ten, with the top 5 or 6 and with more time I will round it out later.

1 Johnny Archer ( Wins a big tourney every year, still gambles some, is always in a match, never gets beat handily, he either wins big or it goes either way in a hill hill match, has won two WPC, one US Open and multiple Reno Opens)

2 Earl Strickland ( Also wins one big tourney per year, 3 WPC, 5 US Opens, and multiple Reno Open also, very focused but maybe not quite as consistent as Archer, also does not gamble anymore)

3 Rodney Morris ( US Open winner, Reno Open Winner, gambles well, consistent)

4 John Schmidt ( Reno Open winner, plays great for the money, plays 9-ball, one pocket and straight pool very well, will gamble with anyone American even and probably anyone else)

5 Shannon Daulton ( Well rounded, consistent, plays well in 9-balll, one pocket, and banks, good in tourneys and gambling)

I assume you mean currently active players? And do you mean to rank the players according to the speed they currently play at or just according to their career-long accomplishments?

5. Charlie Williams
6. Tony Robles
7. Jeremy Jones
8. Danny Harriman

In Strickland's player profile on the website for the 2003 Mosconi Cup, his achievements are listed as follows:

Achievements: 3 x WPA World Pool Champion (90, 91, 02 ), 5 x US Open Champion, 2 x captain of the winning American Mosconi Cup team, over 100 other professional cross-discipline career titles.

This would seem to corroborate the claim of three.

The wpa (bca/upa) fails to reconise Strickland's 3 world 9-ball championships he has won on american soil if I am not mistaken he won in 1984, 1986 and 1988 as well and I think Brunswick was the main sponsor of them.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! But Jimmy Mendoza may be a lil' upset. ;)

lol. Mei copa, mei copa! I knew I should have just said Jimmy M. Hell, I sometimes forget my own name (the 60's left a legacy I think).

Consistancy Counts

Do you really think Corey is playing well enough right now to be considered in the top 10? What about Charlie Bryant? He seems to always be in the cash. I don't think I'd put Shawn Putnam in the top 10 and leave Troy Frank off. Shawn plays real good but I think the Florida pro tour has a little more compation than the Viking. Troy has been pretty consistant on the Florida tour. But I'm biased to Ohio players :)

Andy

From your guidelines....Rank them in order or ALL AROUND GAME......Nine ball, One pocket, and banks. Some of these players don't even play one pocket.

4. Shannon Daulton
5. Corey Deuel
6. Cliff Joyner

DawgAndy,

You are right that Troy Frank has won 2 major tournaments and places well on the florida PRO tour not the Viking tour (I really like the viking tour, but only 4 out of a 64 player field are top players) also Troy does well in Major tournaments as well. However, both players are not fierce one pocket players or straight pool player as well. Above both of these ohio players I would like Dee Adkins. He placed 5th at the US open and won the all-around champion at the DDC in 2000.

Hard to pick based on all-around game since some great players (like Archer) aren't known for their one-pocket or straight-pool skills (though Archer is capable of and has in fact I believe run a 150-and-out in a straights tourny).

So, if a player excels at only one discipline I don't discount them if they are great at it (e.g., Strickland).

Here's my list:

1. Archer
2. Strickland
3. Sigel (I know he's retired, but I still believe his all-around game is at or
near the top of American players)
4. Schmidt
5. Morris
6. Joyner
7. Daulton
8. Jones
9. Deuel/Williams/Robles
10. PoolBum (I knew I'd eventually make the top 10 if I just kept working
hard!)
