Yow's Masse Video

Runarak - on it right now is a Sniper tip, med-hard. I decided to go with the Sniper before I started having trouble with them on my other cues. I mailed the tips to Dennis Dieckman for him to put them on, but that was back in January, I think. Since then I've had a LOT of trouble with Sniper tips. Luckily, though, during the 3 days I filmed for this video, the tips didn't give me any trouble. On a side note, it's actually better to have a harder tip than a softer tip. While a softer tip grabs the cue ball, it also loses power because of the compression of the tip. A harder tip retains the power, at least in theory.

Aunty-dan - that shot was conceived by Javier Gomez, an artistic pool pro in Mexico. His version on faster cloth is across and back, but past the side pockets, then down to the corner. He sent me the diagram a few days before the filming of this video, along with another shot that's in it. He seems like a great guy and carries himself like a professional should.

Hal2 - no, it's year-old, wore out 860 simonis. The slow cloth made a lot of those shots extremely hard. I had several other shots diagrammed that work in my head but I couldn't make work on slow cloth. I'll be recovering in the next few days, 860. I may wind up filming all of those shots anyway. We'll see.

thanks for the props, I love what I do!

You need to find a room with a 3-cushion table :P. I went to this place in California that had 4 of them or so...Of course I don't think you'd ever find 4 people playing 3-cushion at the same time anywhere in America.

What problems have you been having with sniper tips? A lot has to do with the installation. After a bit of use (maybe when you're having problems), check the layers of the tips on the sides. If there are any darker layers then the tip was trimmed improperly and chalk is collecting between the layers. Obviously this is bad! You need to use something sharp to trim it down. Wet the sides of the tip and spin it on a lathe. Only way to do it right. :)

A well compressed one-piece tip would be nice. When you have your cueman install it, have them cut off 3/4 of the tip (I know you're wasting 3/4 of the tip life, so don't use a pricey tip). All that extra bit of padding is really not of any positive use, so get rid of it. Of course, you'd have to have some extra shafts. And all this takes money!

I sent a link to your site to some friends. They were totally amazed. They could not say enough about those unbelievable shots. I have gone to watch the artistic shooting (trick shot) and I don't recall seeing such strong shots. Just fantastic. U should get a lot of calls for demenstrations. Thanx again for sharing with us here on AZ.

Sol, thanks a lot. I love what I do because of people like you that appreciate my work. It thrills me to know that I can amaze people, especially those who know the game. Thoffen, I want really badly to get on a 3-cushion table but I figure I'll just focus on my artistic pool for now. My long term goal is to win a major in Artistic Pool, maybe a world championship, then go to artistic billiards and tour Europe. Who knows what God has in store for me? Thanks for the tip on Snipers.

Charlie - unfortunately, my bandwidth was exceeded so my site will be down until July 1. But thanks for the exposure! When it gets back up, I imagine the high volume traffic will continue. Thanks!

I love watching the videos. I'm sure you have a very bright future ahead of you. Maybe, you should look into a sponsorship from Ray Ban.

What kind of tips do you use and how long do they last? How often do you have to recover the table?

Tracy

Glad you like it. Sorry my site is down for now, it'll be back up in a few days, Lord willing. There was an error in the billing dept of my host. Ray Ban sponsorship? Sounds great. Any sponsorship sounds great!
I've been experimenting with various tips. The shots we shoot utilize maximum english and draw, the kind most players never know they can use. So, it takes a good tip. A well mounted Sniper does great. I like the Moori medium and hard tips about the same as I do the Sniper. I've found that for a lot of my regular gameplay though a triangle tip does me just fine. My masse cue has the Sniper on it and you've already seen what it's capable of doing. :D
I have to recover my table at least once a year. When I got started in Artistic back in 04 I bought this table with crappy felt, recovered with Simonis 860, and in a month or two I had to recover it again. When I did, it lasted about a year, then again about a year. Each time I have a masse fiesta where I absolutely wail on it. As I've gotten considerably better at masse, I hurt the felt a LOT less than I used to. I recovered just the other day and I suppose it will last me at least another year or more.
Cute puppy in your avatar. I want one. I had to put mine down last spring but when he was a puppy I recorded myself jumping a ball over him. It was neat.
