First, this isn't one of ours.

Once a metal zipper gets like this it's almost impossible to get the teeth to realign because you can't go backwards easily on a separated metal zipper.

Best is to find a shoe or luggage repair to replace the zipper if it's broken or to realign it if the zipper teeth are fine.

You can also try Zlide-On which is a snap-on slider replacement. Google them and you will find where to get it.

This is a good tip for zippers that are sticking. For a metal zipper where the teeth have separated behind the slider this won't do anything. The way a metal zipper works is that the slider brings the teeth together as it moves up and separates them as it moves back.

It's essentially a one way metal-to-metal cog. So it's virtually impossible to get the misaligned teeth to go through the slider backwards. On a nylon zipper you can do this and ones that are specifically designed to allow it are called self-healing zippers. But on metal zippers it's very rare that one can re-align them by bringing the slider back to the home position when the teeth are out of alignment.

In general when the teeth on a metal zipper get out of alignment like this then it's because the teeth are coming loose from the fabric that holds them, called zipper tape.

Best is to find a repair shop and give them $30 and let them replace the zipper.
