Had to put pool low due health issues. Trying get my body function fully. Played still quite a lot but not practiced lately. I plan go take first official snooker tournament too so it probably will be couple months before I can try this.
I hope you play well in the tournament.

Post scores when you get a chance.

Catch you later,
Dave

I want to thank you and ask a question. Thanks for F1 cut shot drill I won a game the other night and I believe its do to me practicing the cut shot drill. the 8 ball was all the way against the wall on the short rail right at the diamond by the corner pocket like in the drill and my cue ball was right in the middle of the corner pocket behind the 7th position. I made the shot flawlessly . My question is wile doing the stop shot and draw in F2 and F4 is the cue ball suppose to be on the dots from position 1-7 or anywhere between the dots and the cushion. im having a little problem with the stop and draw in F2 and F4 . thinking its my awkward angle im on wile shooting. so I played around with the position of the cue ball .but it could be the felt on my table it needs a recover and its not the good felt.

I'm glad your practice has paid dividends. I often come across shots in league play where I think: "This is exactly like that BU Exam Drill shot I practiced countless times." This certainly helps with confidence.

My question is wile doing the stop shot and draw in F2 and F4 is the cue ball suppose to be on the dots from position 1-7 or anywhere between the dots and the cushion.
Here's the pertinent statement from the 1st page of the Exam I document:

With drills involving balls lined up close to the rail (F2-F4), you are allowed to vary the OB position and shot line from what is shown in the diagrams (e.g., for bridging comfort) as long as the CB remains within 1 diamond of the long rail.

im having a little problem with the stop and draw in F2 and F4 . thinking its my awkward angle im on wile shooting. so I played around with the position of the cue ball .but it could be the felt on my table it needs a recover and its not the good felt.
A fast and slick cloth certainly helps, but technique is more important. For good advice, see the info and videos on the draw shot technique advice resource page.

Good luck,
Dave

hi dave, found the website today.

waiting for my camera to set it up officialy.
did the first exam as a quick test and got only a 69 out of it. 9ft 4.5's diamond pro will do some training and then do all the exams on video when i feel i'm ready.

I watched your runs, guess your highscore wasn't your first try either? or must the score be the first try you do this test? after some practice you do find some "tricks" and i'm sure i should get at least 75-80 in exam I.

Please post both your Exam I and Exam II scores (with your table info) after you give them both a go, that way we can see how much you can improve over time.

You can post new scores for either or both exams in the future to improve your total and your ranking.

Good luck,
Dave

Here's the latest.

I just added videos for Marc Vidal, with a score of 143. This was his first attempt at the exams on a very tight table. I look forward to filming him again in the near future. I'm sure he will be able to top Gerry's best score after a little practice with the exams, and when he is not jet-lagged (he just go back from China, where he played in the China Open).

Enjoy,
Dave

If more people plan to submit videos in the future, please consider speeding up the dead time between the drills. This can be done easily in free video-editing software like iMovie (IOS) and MovieMaker (Windows).

As an example, see the recent videos I posted for Marc Vidal:

Exam I: http://youtu.be/XQ-bBsSozWU
Exam II: http://youtu.be/0uJXXyjgnPs

This technique makes the videos much more fun (and faster) to watch. Having friends help with ball spotting and scoring also speeds things up. The above Exam I video is only 23 minutes, and the Doctorate Exam II (the longest of the three) is only 34 minutes. These durations are half as long as many of the videos posted to date.

The shortening of the videos also speeds Youtube upload times (which can be very long, depending on video quality and connection speed).

Regards,
Dave

We haven't had any new postings in a while, either from repeat people posting new and better scores or new people posting for the first time.

Who is ready to step up to the plate?

You don't need to post videos (although, it is more interesting when you do, and you might get useful feedback on your technique and game).

Good luck,
Dave

Dave,

I still owe you the scores of my better half and I.

Thanks for getting Marc to post his video, I got a lot out of seeing his pattern play. Hopefully his posting will prompt more of the better players to post their videos as well.

Agreed. I also look forward to seeing how much better Marc can do after practicing with the drills some (and when he is not jet-lagged).

Finally took the exam, and while I didn't expect to pass with flying colors, I also didn't expect it to be as tough as it was.

Granted I didn't study/practice beforehand.

I got a 57 on Exam 1 and a 37 on Exam 2 for a total of 94.

I look forward to working on my weaknesses and retaking the test in a few weeks.

Please post your table info also.

And please post videos if possible when you post your improved scores.

Thanks again,

Hopefully. I have everything printed out, now to just actually take the time to do everything.
Please consider posting scores (and videos if possible) both after your first attempts and then again after dedicated practice (if you are so inclined). It is interesting to see how much people can improve their scores over time.

Good luck,
Dave

Are all these players OK with you sharing their videos?

I mean some of those videos are unlisted with a private link, probably for your eyes only.

Just wondrin....

Don't have a clue why anyone that posted a video would have a problem with Dave providing the link to it. But, if anyone does, they can simply make the video private at any point and then no one else can see it. Or they can just remove it.
