What is there to verify? The OP didn't ask for anything the way I read it.
Why call him a scammer or doubt his story at all? He didn't ask for a handout....

OK.. I have been reading this thread while it develops and I have to say if I were the OP I wouldn't come near it with a ten foot pole.. This forum has a "Dog pile" attitude sometimes and it really saddens me.. In the first place, the OP never asked for anything from me or anyone else but to watch for his stolen cues and case.. That's it! Why should he have to satisfy 15 different people with all of the questions.. If I want to help the guy for whatever reason I choose to, what's the problem? If you think he is full of crap, don't help him or offer to help him, but please don't tell me what criteria I should use to verify him.. I don't give of myself or offer to give to please anyone but me.. If he is a scammer and he manages to bullshit his way past me then so be it.. I got what I wanted when I offered to help him and I personally do not put a price on that.. It is what drives me and gives me peace.. If I lose a cue because I didn't ask enough questions I can live with that... I know I am going to piss a few members off here but sometimes I just..... Sorry in advance....

all of you country guys need to spend a few days in LA or one of the nyc boroughs where people deal with this shit day in and day out. yeah, I'm calling you country, I saw your house - there were no skyscrapers. :grin-square:

here's the thing. the op may well be the real McCoy, a disabled vet who got ripped. but maybe not.

as far as him not outright asking for charitable contributions, consider these 2 things:

1. if he's a scammer, he's laying it down real nice by not coming right out and asking for us to send him replacements. But, he sure did lay it on thick how pool was his only solace and means to recover from his war injury. and he sure did provide great detail of the gear he says was stolen.

2. it could be that he feels he's staying legal by letting people take it upon themselves to offer up gifts that, technically, he didn't ask for.

there are a few other things I'm tired of writing about that have caused red flags to pop for me - yes flags, plural.

would love if he came on and surprised the crap out of me by being real.

I will bet that he won't.

best,
brian kc

Not sure who you are calling "Country" Brian, but you've got the wrong "Bumpkin" here.. I would venture to say I have been exposed to as many or more thieves than most and although it has hardened me in a lot of ways, I still give of myself for the right reasons.. Not an attack, just a statement!

Your missing the point if you feel your doing the right thing nothing else matters...

I totally disagree.

what else matters is that you may well be enabling a scammer who will delight in his successes and continue scamming others.

for crying out loud people what's the big deal with asking a total of 3 questions before sending gifts?

whats your name?

where are you located?

where were your cues stolen?

that's it - then you can verify rather easily.

has anyone considered that if you try to confirm basic info first, this actually goes toward looking out for other honest people, that they might avoid getting had?

Dan;

you're a good guy, that's for sure.

definitely do what makes you happy.

My sense is that if you ever get contacted by the op, you'll do your version of a verification.

as for the bumpkin bit, it was tongue-in-cheek mostly at my good pal, kcrackem. he's pretty far from the big city now. :)

last thing from me.

I actually believe that Kickin Chicken is spot on on this one. I respect the Vets bc I am one but the OP is trying to scam the he'll out of the AZ Community and Brian is just trying to save us all some trouble. Its a shame that 2 good guys are in disagreement on one POS.

hellooooo

I hear story's of stolen, and in need. Do any of these people who say they where ripped off or short of luck ever give back... This might be karma. Not talking about the kids, or students... But grown men and women who can afford to pay to play the game of pool, but don't have the money to buy what they need... And yes I don't mean a predator or custom cue.. A players is like $80 and a 1x1 case is $15... Ok a glove $10 for a total of $105..... Chalk is free... Break cue? Use a house cue. Tip shouldn't matter you probity can't tell or know the difference... This shit is very simple... I'm sorry if I'm so forward. And for those that have done the right thing and either lost or had there things taken. These things I posted for $105 could be saved for, even if you don't have funds. Asking AZ for help, if your true and honest is ok. But to ask for things of high grade is bull. I once asked to start a fund to donate cue stuff for those in need and worthy. But never have I asked for high grade, if you suck a players is fine. If your a pro then you can play with a players. Either way all these in need of and using AZ as a way to suck the good out of the members to the point they don't want to do anything anymore is crazy and enough..... Just my 2 cents.... This should be a sticky for anyone ready to ask for things from us... If your story can't be confirmed then you shouldn't get anything from any of us..... Again sorry to all that I might offend by my post.... All the best Dom
P.s. I'm all for the vets and disabled, kids and students. I just don't understand why people want high end gifts.. Even tho he didn't ask for a predator he made it his point to say everything he had missing, but not where he was missing what pool hall or bar, date time. State..... That he placed a police report. Nothing just stolen things he had and any help.... Just don't sound right. The DD214 would help. But more then that the Poolhall or bar so we can call and verify his things where stolen.. Being a vet can be true, making a report could be true. But the people inthe location bar Poolhall would know what he had and if it was taken.....

The op didnt have to ask. He told a sad story. Not my cues are stolen this is what it is. Where it happend . Date time. Where to look for his things , a police report. .. this whole story about how pool has helped him. And that's great. But it has also played on the hearts of the many. You az members do what you want, and what makes you happy. Just why hasn't the op come back to comment. Or its a scam...

I think....that I both commend ToomnyQs (for his outstanding generosity) AND Kickin' Chicken ( For protecting all AZB members) Both of you are fantastic AZB Members. Don't get into an argument over this. The original poster has as of yet not returned to give additional information on his post. If he does indeed offer proof of his claim, then by all means support him. Until this happens, everyone involved needs to relax and let Virgil Earp validate his post.

I love you, Brian! I am a bit country, but I also have about 21 years of military service under my belt. I've been around the block a couple times. I also saw red flags, but there's enough content there for me to think this could be legit.
I also trust that anyone willing to give would do a little homework. It's on them. That's why I take a little exception to the cautionary posts and a lot of exception to the ones trying to flame the OP and others. Let adults be adults....
I've given to guys like this in the past and to guys and gals that maybe didn't deserve it. It still made me feel good.

my two cents

I've been following this from the get-out. Many segregated views on this. It's black or white. True/false. Either way, IMO anyone willing to help, with or without validation, speaks volumes. I personally would think twice. I've had cues stolen on 2 separate occasions. My fault. Should have kept a better eye on my investments. First wasn't too bad(maybe $400-$500) second I wasnt so lucky. Either way I didn't ask for handouts whether in a direct or indirect content. Us "country boys " lol, do things differently. Find em, take em out, ask questions later. Lol. Just instigating. Hope he's legit and someone finds the *****

There are a lot of very good and gracious folks on this forum. I am amazed at how the members on here will bend over backwards to help someone in need even if they don't ask for help. Speaking for myself only and I would bet a very very high percentage of the members on here would feel the same( If I were in this guys shoes I would look at this forum and say, with the thousands of scams that go on everyday I totally totally understand 100% why these good folks are in caution mode to help me out) so asking for these couple of request is not out of line whatsoever and will take a very small amount of my time and effort to prove I'm not being dishonest.

Dan, it is definitely up to you and you only on what you decide to do here. It's a nice gesture for sure. I also don't think it's a bad thing that AZ looks out for one another as there have been a lot of scams in the last few years...that being said I am just curious on why the OP didn't get any information about himself or on how to contact him...he said to just spread the word. Usually in situations where people lose a cue or case they either get into detail about the situation (he sort of did) or at least put their contact information (name, email, maybe phone # occasionally) for if someone finds their cues.

Even though he hasn't logged in since then he may have been back here to read the threads and then saw all the questions/doubts and said screw these people...that is definitely possible but hopefully it not the case. IF he is for real maybe he can just post his name or the bar that it was stolen at to give more information. There's nothing wrong with giving people the benefit at the doubt, and there is also nothing wrong with people cautioning you to be careful...but yes at the end of the day it's your choice to do what you want...I hope it all works out.

Matt
