Question about Jose Parica

30 years ago when I was getting back into pool, I went to a tournament down by the Atlanta airport in some nondescript pool hall. Many named players were there, and it was wild, pool tables in one half the room and full sports book on the other. Gambling of all sorts going on, lots of "characters", I was probably the only guy in there not "packing heat". I wasn't familiar with Parica, but in my mind he was "that little Mexican guy". He had a woman with him, older, heavy, wearing about $11 worth of Wal-Mart clothes. She was booking all his action. She reached inside her bra and hauled out a 3 inch roll of bills that would gag a mule. I was stunned.

It's been said for over 20 years, From 6 Balls to all 15 balls, the Cue Ball reacts the same, It doesn't know what the rack weighs, It just know it hit something bigger than it is...

You sure about that? It seems to follow from your statement, that a cue ball wouldn't know if it hit one ball or a straight line of 30 balls. And further, a cue ball wouldn't know if it hit a brick wall or a down pillow. The cue ball would react the same when hitting those "racks"?

SJM at 2025 Mosconi Cup: Way too Late Thoughts

i think probably generalizing. in some countries on the continent you're more likely to find a carom table than a snooker table, especially outside of a capital / metropolis city. even discounting the french speaking countries, cue sport history in most countries comes from carom games, like carolina and kägel (sweden), nine pin (italy), danish kegle, etc. snooker has come late to many countries. i would venture to guess that in the career of 90% of current european pros, playing snooker has played almost no part at all.

but snooker is an excellent complement to pool. if you're stroke/aim is off, go torture yourself on the snooker table for a couple of weeks. i was lucky to live close to a "snooker immigrant" run pool room for many years
Yeah I agree wholeheartedly, the other main popular cuesport in Europe carom/billiards. That discipline also provides a lot of self-torture opportunities! 😅

Is the "tension" for the resistance equivalent to what the weight of moving a full rack of balls would be?

If so, how would you adjust it for games with different numbers of balls in the rack?

Who builds the Becue, full pool cues, and are they popular?

The cue feels the same as any wrapless wooden cue. I have hard tips on my cues, as that is my preference, you can order them new with soft, medium or hard tip. Their tip technology is also advanced, long lasting and (really) no mushrooming. I break 10-ball with my playing Becue.

Sounds good, thanks.

Was just wondering if anyone had experience with the Kamui on the Becue since those are offered and in different types, including SS. If the carbon fiber doesn't change feel or performance in some way then I'm likely going medium or soft on a Prime II but all insights most welcome!

I break with all my cues, including the Becues.

If you can't break with your playing cue, throw it away.

:)

Custom Cue with Ivory

Unless the cue maker weighs in, I don't think anyone here is going to be able to accurately speak to whether a specific maker is still using ivory. A lot has changed in the past 10-20 years.

Having said that, reach out the the maker you'd like to work with. This will serve two purposes. First, you'll be able to gauge their communication skills. If/when they do get back to you, you'll know whether or not they still use ivory.
There are all kinds of people on here who go to cuemakers shops regularly and can 100% say if they're using ivory or not 🤦‍♂️

Question about Jose Parica

two of the best players that ever lived with different styles. when each in their prime if playing 9 ball i would bet on parica.

although i bet my money on dan louie in the 80's when parica first came over and wasnt well prepared yet for our tables and conditions.
and won handily.

dan bet 500 on himself and had others with him. i asked if i could bet and dan said yes. as that is customary to ask when cutting in on another's action. so i asked parica'ss backers how much more would they take and i would cover it. but they said just another 500.

and the players from there were smart gamblers and won all they could and quit when they saw they had a game that wasn't productive.

american players most of them anyway, played till their money ran out and couldn't borrow any more.
LMAO.

That is the truth.

Most American gambling players would go down like gunslingers.

Shooting until their last bullet.
