Straight arm or no straight arm?

What surprises me is that they have so much bend on rail shots when they could have a locked elbow. I see no reason to have the arm bent then.

Other than vision issues, what's the deal with straight arm bridging? I'm of the opinion that the stick is stable enough to shoot straight.
