When playing short rack banks, what happens if 5 balls fall on the break? Does anything come up immediately, or does nothing spot until the shooter has either banked 4 or missed? Thanks for your help.

Aaron

Normally all 5 balls are spotted after the breaker has finished his inning. If he happens to run 4 balls to clear the table, then all 5 balls are spotted and the shooter continues his run. Can someone else confirm this?

first of all SOMEONE IS BREAKING TOOOOOOO HARD FOR SRB! :D

and yes, the way I understand it (and the way we play) if he banks the remaining balls needing one... then ALL the balls made on the break would spot up at the same time with the shooter continuing his run.

You are correct, they would all spot after four banks were made.

Efren played Amarilo Slim some One Pocket about 12-13 years ago in Dallas. He was spotting him 18-5. One rack he ran all the balls (15) and still needed three. They didn't know what to do and asked me. I told them to spot all the balls that Efren would normally be required to spot in the game. So they spotted seven balls in a row from the foot spot. Now there were enough balls for Efren and Slim to finish the game. Kapeche?

23-16=7. That's how you figure this out.

LOL, yeah you'd have to really crush 'em to drop 5 on the tables I usually play on. I posed it as a purely hypothetical question, however. I know that if I ever make 5 the break, they'll all spot immediately because one of them bastards will be the cueball. :D

Thanks for the response,
Aaron

Wow, very interesting. I would not have known what to do in that situation, but that makes perfect sense. Seven balls spotted... I guess that means Efren was able to cut the back one right in, assuming he had position on it. Did he run out?

Yes, he cut a ball in and broke out a few balls and made the last two. Piece of cake. :)

I believe at the DCC, you aren't allowed to soft break in short rack banks.

A couple years ago, on the TV table, Jason Miller made 5 on the break, but didn't get out. IIRC.

Jay, you should have your signature as a link to sell your book. Just go to your site and copy, then paste in your signature. This would make it much easier to get peeps to your site. Just trying to help.:)
