Hey Guys, Im traveling and Im going to be in the Newark, DE / Elkton,MD area Sunday thru Tuesday and im looking for a place to hit some balls. Any pool halls in this area worth checking out? I know there used to be a place in off main street in the Newark shopping center by wooden wheels is that place still around? Any Bars with alot of tables?

You're going to have to go barbox, but there are a few bars that have several tables.

Pockets on rte 13 just south of rte 40 has 7 valley barboxes, free pool all day Monday and until 2 pm on Tuesday thru Friday. Otherwise it's a buck a game. Cheap action can be had (race to 5 in 9 ball for $20 is common) The tables are in good shape with 4 or 5 having new felt and rails in the last 3 weeks.

Mango's is close to Newark, but I'm not sure exactly where it is. They have at least 4 boxes, and I have heard that there is cheap action there too. I don't know what the per game cost is.

The Pale Dog in Glasgow has 4 boxes, which IMO are a bit crowded together. They were in decent shape the last time I was there, and I have heard they take pretty good care of them. I don't remember what I paid per game, 75 cents I think.

If you want to play on a 9' table you'll have to go to Dover to First State Billiards. They are open at 4pm daily and have evening specials. They have 4 super tight Gabriels, 10 or so Gold Crowns, a few other 9'ers, 6 barboxes and a 10' snooker table. No bar, and action is hard to come by from what I have seen. This is about 45 minutes south from Newark.

Thanks. I'm not trying to play for money, but a place to take my pops out to. I may have to check out that pockets place. I guess I'm lucky I ok e in a place with 2 pool halls within a 5 mile radius

Pockets is a good place to go. They have really good food there too. If you're there during the day you won't have any trouble getting a table for yourself. They get busy at night, and they do have leagues in there.

I usually go there for lunch when I am working near there.

You know exactly where it is located. I know the area pretty good being born and raised in Newark. Just havent been in the area for aobut 4 years now. I plan on going sunday night....any idea how busy is might be?

Is there not alot of money to be made in the pool hal business anymore or what? It seems like a pretty nitche market, and for the size of the newar/wilmingotn region you would think there would be atleast a place with 20 or so tables.

If you take 40 E to rte 13 S it is less than 1/2 mile down 13 S on the right hand side of the road. It is just past an under pass on the road. It's hard to miss. I have never been in there on a Sunday night, but you shouldn't have too much trouble getting on a table.

If you want pool hall with 9 footers and not a bar, you can go to Royal Billiards on Naamans road. Mangos is located across the street from Christiana High School.

the one you were refering to on main street was Don's Billiars. They are closed now....shame

No, Its in Wilmington.

Royal billiards
4 Carpenter Plz
Wilminton, DE

If travelling I-95 north, you would take the Naamans exit. Turn left onto Naamans. Go about 1 mile and then turn right onto Carpenter. Royal Billiards is loacted in the shopping center on your right back in the right hand corner.
