What's important in a jump/break cue?

I bought my first cue about a year ago and in the last few weeks I've really been spending a lot of time working on my game. I'd like to get a j/b cue but I really have no idea what to look for.

Well, I don't have "no" idea. I know that I would like a phenolic tip...but beyond that I don't know what's important. I was bidding on a McDermott Stinger on ebay but lost the auction.

What do you guys think? Any recommendations for a first j/b cue?
 
If you know people with J/B cues... test a few out. Ive heard bad things about the McDermott version of the Stinger, but the original is great.

I hit a few with the new Concept J/B and I may just switch... very impressive.
 
I have a BK2 and a Lucasi jump cue. I love both. But, based on everything Ive read (CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT) If I was in the market for a j/b combo, I'd just get one of those cheap J&J combo's. For the price, (~$60) hard to go wrong.
 
call up Joe (Nielsen's Billiards - joerackem on eBay), tell him you're thinking about jump/breaks (and the Stinger in particular), mention you're a member on AZB, and he'll hook you up with a good deal. Easy as that.

I have a NG-01 (the plain, wrapless McDermott Stinger), and it is a great preformer. Do a search, and you'll see folks that have one say the same thing. You might see, like the post above, some say they've "heard" of problems with them, but I've yet to read a post from someone personally having a problem with one. :confused: BTW, if you were to encounter a problem with one, both Joe, and McDermott have the BEST customer service in the biz....no worries there!! :thumbup:

I may do this. I'd love to give some business to a friend of the forum and also launch myself into this community. I'm also looking for a new case that can accommodate more than one cue. Thanks for the recommendation!

The indian no doubt...:clapping:

For me its the length of the jump option. Most standard jump options are too short for me. On my B/J's, the length overall after taking the butt apart is 46"-47" instead of the standard 42". Its nice to know you can draw your ball after the jump with lil effort if its needed and the extra length makes that possible.
 
Mezz makes the best jump break cue I have ever tried. What you should look for is lightness of the jumper part, and a good stiff shaft with very little vibration.
