Mr. Jewett,
In the Stroke magazine I picked up in Valley Forge you have an artice called "Bank Shot Propostion" on page 10. How do you make shot A.

For those who have not seen the artice I will try to describe the shot. The cue ball goes on the spot. The object ball is on your half of the table on ball off of the side rail and right in front of the diamond one diamone away from the side pocket.

Is it possible to bank this ball cross side? Do you have the answer or were you just discussing possible solutions.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
 
Its like a stun draw with inside. In reality the cue ball only draws and inch or so, just enough to beat the kiss. Speed is important as well not to hard or to soft. I think this is the shot you reference.

I think Rod nailed the answer as well. It seems that the trick is to transfer as much side to the OB as possible. A soft stun shot with inside seems like it would do the trick. I gotta try this on my table at home.

BTW, I too have noticed Bob Jewett not posting in a while. Hope everything is okay.
 
I am sitting in front of my PC and not a pool table but based on the diagram I actually think you would want outside english to throw the OB to the left a little.

Like the above posters mentioned, you need to put inside english(left on the diagram).

Are you talking about the CB crossing the 9's path? I don't think you can beat that kiss, even with inside spin.

To bank the 9 straight in without crossing its path, use outside (right) spin and stun or a little draw - "stiff" it. Whether you need to draw the CB out of the way or not depends on the rail - on a sticky table you might stiff the 9 in with a straight-on hit.

That was pretty much my thinking.
 
Inside english on this shot is what makes the OB shorten the angle coming off the rail to make the bank into the side pocket. It has to be at stun speed with a little draw to miss the double kiss. Aim CB straight at the OB from. The CB should end up about 2-4 inches from the OB's original position.

Outside will make the OB go way wide of the side pockets.

I think we're saying the same thing: use right english for the shot in the diagram.

Tried it on my home table (Diamond Pro with Simonis). I tried just about every method that was described here, plus a few more. I was successful shooting it only one certain way, and no one has mentioned this method yet. Anyone else attempt this shot yet? It's a tough shot.

It goes very well the way that has been described by more than one poster: low right (outside :) ).
