Billiard 'bots turn classic game on its head

Must have been designed by someone who loved the game, but could not grasp the basics well enough, to enjoy playing with a $2000 Cue & measles Cue Ball. I may be wrong, but the idea might be a "hit" with morons.... Ha!Ha!Ha!

As a purist who loves to play pool with the proper equipment I have to say that this strikes me as if it could be a lot of fun. In contrast to most video games which are programmed responses with cheats available if you know them this one combines the randomness of of billiards with the video-game like dexterity required of hand-eye coordination at distance from the objects being manipulated.

Since the human is doing the controlling I don't see this a robotic programmed exercise. It is just pool using a different kind of cue. It is quite fascinating to reflect on all the variation in pool and billiard games around the world and to see that people are still dreaming up new ways to get balls into pockets.

...It is just pool using a different kind of cue...

I wouldn't go that far. Pool requires one to stroke a cue ball into an object ball to pocket it. This doesn't appear to be the case at all with this robot deal. To say it is just pool using a different kind of cue is to say that it is pool to use a cue stick but no cue ball at all, but rather just hitting object balls into the pockets.

I wouldn't call that pool, although my ability to run packages would go up dramatically. I think Mosconi's record run would also be in jeopardy. :D

LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME.

And this is coming from a 20 year old who grew up on video games, mind you.

Thanks for the link though, shinyballs

This is the most ridiculous idea I've ever heard in a long time regarding pool related stuff. Kids nowadays are playing too much video games. Playstation controller eh???:barf: So, I guess no more custom cues. It's time to trade your szams, searings, scruggs etc for a nice custom "glow in the dark" controller, Lmao!

i'm not saying it's the dunbest thing i've ever seen but it ranks right up there. how fat and lazy do you have to be to not want to actually get up and hit balls on a pool table? and let me qualify that question by saying i myself and pretty damn fat and lazy and i play pool five to six times a week.

Friday Night

A guy brings his girl to the pool room she can't make a ball she has never played. Wait - instead they use these robots and now the game is actually competitve between the two them. I actually think this is a good idea for a pool room. It is basically just a race of who can manuever the robot faster. It is almost like a "reality video game". I think a few beers and few robots and maybe our friend will get lucky tonight.:thumbup:
