What gun drill is better for cored? 14", 16" or 18" gun drills?

Price is similar, I think that 14" will be sufficient but.....I need ideas

I believe mine are 18". You need to know how long they can drill, not how long they are. How long you would need would depend on what the longest section of a cue you build is.

Yes, I'd say at least 18 inch. When I bought mine I got 16 inch but found that the actual cutting depth is only around 13 inch as the rest of the drill is for mounting. I probably would have gone with about 20 inch if I had none this. When making V-bottom half/splice cues I start off with a blank around 14.5 to 15 inch so now I must bore from both ends to attain this depth. An 18 inch would accomplish this but a little longer gives some leeway.

and I am thinking... ..gun drill without side air inlet or rear air inlet ? Is necesary air inlet?:confused:
 
My main drill is 22" including the driver. I can bore a 19" deep hole with it.
If I only had one, I wouldn't want it any shorter.
Air is a MUST. Rear is best, it will help you align it.

The air blows the chips out and keeps things cool. Some woods will crack just from the heat without it.
