Dowel/Pole Sander?

I have questions about the dowel/pole sanders:

1- Who makes them?
2-Who uses them in their shops?
3- Are they consistent- meaning, would you lose the accuracy of your taper if using to smooth out the finish cut from your lathe?
4-Would you recommend one "for the right price?"

There are a few places that import them in from Asia. As far as I know there are none made on this side of the pond. Sunhill is one of the importers of them. A few of the larger Custom cue builders have them and I imagine about all of the manufacturers have them. They are supposed to be very accurate once set-up but to my understanding that takes a little while. Sherm bought one five or six years ago and with shipping it was around 3600.00. It sat in his garage for sometime before he got it to work correctly. For your last question "If it would be worth it for the right price?" Well of coarse it would but it all depends on what is considered the "right price". I've heard that some custom cue makers (Mottey and Perry for two) claim that if they had to hand sand their cues they would have quit building cues years ago. I don't really believe it as you don't spend that much time sanding. I always figured they were saying that as they probably got a commission for sales that came about over their recommendation.

i just bought one and love it we did have do some slight modifications but now i can send a shaft thru as fast as you can load it i first saw one years ago at Dave jacobys also Paul mottey has one it was Paul that showed me the ropes using it saving time in any business is what its alll about being productive i give them 5 stars and yes there's one company in WV that makes one $5000.00
