In an occasion I read in this forum that some cuemaker coat Stainless Steel Joints, Is True? Why? I never did it, Coat in stainless steel joint is very sensitive.

Ive never had any luck with it.
I think they find it easier then creating a shoulder behind the joint for the finish. The finish should be level with the joint and have a seamless transition. It is hard work doing every little detail right. . They all know how to build cues but It's the little things that sets one cuemaker apart from another.
Just my opinion.
I don't know any LONG term finish that will stay on stainless steel after polishing.

I believe some of the larger companies who use a UV unit often spray their steel joints as the finish is so hard to rub out. McDermott and Viking and such have such good spraying systems that their cues normally need no rubbing out. That is why their finish looks so good. If they did not spray the steel joint then the cue would need wet sanded and rubbed out and they don't want to get into that. This is what I've always assumed anyway. By the way, I agree that the finish can't hold up long on the stainless joint. I mean, it's not called stainless for no reason.

LOL. thats why you have to respect dennis searing so much. anyone that has held one of his cues in your hand you can close your eyes and feel no transition anywhere. perfection
i use the lip method and still dont get it "perfect" not like dennis atleast.
ill tell you what bugs the crap outa me. seeing a custom where the finish extends like little over the SS and into the delrin.

What is the lip method?
undercutting under the joint and above the delrin to allow for finish.
basically you create a lip pre finish to have no lip when finish is applied
like cutting a wrap groove all to create perfect transition from component to component

Often this transition, from steel joint to forearm, can be felt, even if sanded perfectly is because the steel joint has not been tapered or if tapered it is a little differently than the rest of the cue and what is felt is the change of angle.

i taper my ss joint the same as the rest of my cue.rought .855 to .865 (850 to 860 sanded) then il go back and take a light pass over the rings then down the rest of the cue to the delrin. then i take my mini boring bar and clean up the ends
