Pool? Never heard of it..

I took a slight break from all things pool. I was starting to play horribly and even wanted to throw my cue on ebay so I decided to cool it for a few weeks. I played leagues, but wasn't really into it, just going through the motions instead.

After a few weeks of time NOT thinking about pool I played last night and won 9 of my 12 8ball games. Running 6 balls on average and playing safe early on if I thought a run-out was impossible. It appears as though I was thinking too much about pool and not enough about having a good time. Last night felt like I had found a new sport again.

Anyone frustrated with their level of play and wanting to throw in the towel...stop playing for a couple weeks, stop reading EVERYTHING about pool, erase all those episodes on your DVR and get over the "what am I doing wrong?" phase. Then go back to the table and find out why you obsessed over the sport in the first place. It's a wonderful game, don't give up.

Good advice, and exactly what I told the recent lackadaisical member to do :)

It's frustrating. I KNOW how to do banks, English, combos, cut shots, safeties, etc. But I was really starting to beat myself up for not being able to consistently DO all of these things. Foolish really...Trying to master something that nobody has mastered. I've heard plenty of sayings about this exact issue....At least it's feeling good to be back on the saddle with both feet in the stirrups again.

Time off!

Yep sometimes I have gotten disgusted with my play too, so I take time off with the game, and its refreshing to the mind. I set no date as when to come back, just when the urge is so overwhelming to get back to the table I know its time to return to the game I love.

Most of the time I will return with a renewed confidence & control, which will have me more at ease with the game.

"Absence makes the heart grow fonder"...that goes for pool too!:grin-square:
