Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Does anyone in Dee Moines or the surrounding communities have the nuts(or funding)to hop in the box with Tom M? Jamie and Jason C. can't be the only ones....can they?
Like I said about 5 pages ago, if I'm playin everyday I would love to get into that game. Fact is, I haven't hit one ball since I got back from Vegas, and I didn't really play before I left either. You can't get in the box with great players unless you feel good about your game, and you have been playing. I live for competition, but I won't donate to the cheesehead fund. After I get done with all these team tourney's at work, I will play more. For now though, I'm not up for alot.

I think more people would be up to playing with an appropriate spot, but even then some people won't do it because of the pride of having to ask for a spot.

Edit...and on a side note there is the whole money factor. It is one thing to have a stakehorse willing to throw up $100s on a whims notice, but fronting your own money as well is a huge difference that not a lot of players around here are willing to do, especially if you are playing with money you can't really afford to lose.

I know Jon. That wasn't really directed towards you...
I wish I had a life that I could play everyday...I might actually be good...

Its funny how in the last 2 weeks you've hit a couple tournaments and low and behold YOU'RE CASHING.

Weird how that works.

I am with you there buddy! I play only when I hang out at a bar with friends or on my Monday APA and neither are serious at all. It is hard to play good when you aren't gambling, practicing, or playing in a tournament 4-5 days a week.

In the last two weeks I've played in four tourneys and cashed in three....It sad really. If I can cash, anyone can...
Before that the last time I played a tournament was about 8 months ago.......Thank you Frosty for inspiring me!

Jon Brown, i was trying to set up some action for tonight. I heard from a little birdy that John M says i still play bad and he can beat me. So i sent him a text and he said he cant play til Friday which dont work for me this week.

So i will let you know in a couple hours via text if i can make it up. I would like too, play you a 25 ahead set for $5 or something.

You have to love the game and have a reason to get better. Many people fall into a state of mediocracy.(sp?)

Your welcome Mr. Bruce, happy hittin em

To an extent I would agree with you...however there is that little thing called life that trumps that.

Not totally true, you'd be amazed how much time people waste say watching TV when they could be hitting balls. And for someone like you who has a woman who also plays pool you have no excuse(well ok you dont own a cue) BUT BESIDES that.......

We will ship you a huge tip for holding the cash for us!! Thanks buddy :)

Side note...life does make things more difficult to gamble with ease these days. Money is a lot tighter now than ever.

Great! F'in Great!!! I think they're bonding.....GREAT!!!!

I talked to John M. by the way and he is going to ask you for some weight to play again. After you say no, I'm sure he'll say fine and play you even again. Damnit!

It's not that hard to get along with everyone, now is it?

What time are you thinkin, Jason?

I'm sure there is a whitty reply someplace, but damned if I can figure it out...

Real Life does conflict with pool. Sometimes, i liken it to having a double life. You do the 8-4 thing, and then from 8 - 2am is your second life. As long as those two can co-exist peacefully, your good.

Hey, but who amungst us hasn't missed work to play pool?? Just gotta have your priorities. LOL

:joyful:

If you are comparing to watching tv vs hitting balls I would agree. But if you are talking about $$$ and Time I will have to respectfully disagree. Money is needed to gamble, take lessons, and play in tournaments agreed? There is no way practice alone will do you any good other then being able to beat your buddy consistently or play really well on your own table. Time is also a factor. The time needed to play is a variable that changes depending on the person and their skill level. I would probably need to put in a hell of a lot of hours to be one of the top players in Des Moines and that is only if I obtain the skill, nerves, smarts, and passion to do so agreed? Working 5 days a week, having a life of friends and a girlfriend, as well as other hobbies take time. Sure I can hit some balls with the girl, but that will only do me so good and I will not improve my game that way. I straight up told her if I ever wanted to push myself to the limit and (Army quote) be all I can be, she will rarely see me because I will be out playing in tournaments, gambling, practicing by myself or with a partner that is as good or better. Do you think she wants to just watch the whole time??? Yes I can let her play, but you and I know this only is for hang out purposes and not to make my game better.

Edit...and as for the $$$ I don't mean cheap $5 tournaments or $5 dollar sets...but actual nice amount of dough to do all these things and still pay the bills that I scrape to pay each month.
