Update on the Des Moines pool scene

I just wanna say I think it's amazing you guys woke up this early on a holiday. I need a good plan for the day.

My internal clock wakes me up every day by 5:45 am whether my body wants to get outa bed or not. sometimes this sucks, sometimes I need some motivation for the day.

As for your plans for the day, get some food for the grill, refreshing beverages and invite some friends over. You can't ever go wrong w/ a cookout/bbq.

You're right, headed to the poker room. Later

some of us did have to work today

I basically spent the weekend in the casino, it was fun, had several moments where I should have cashed out but didnt, typical fashion. I had a good time though and considering the hours I played I held my own, but the house won.

My wife and I spent 2 hours there Sat night. When all the dust settled, we netted a profit of $1.56. I think prisoners get paid more per hour than that....but still better than losing.

Yeah definitely. I usually just stick to poker but the poker room in Prarie has too many sitters who play way too tight. Hell I raised in to a guy with aces pre flop and he took 5 minutes to call. Then I flopped a full boat with 9-5 and busted him. It was hilarious. Pai Gow is my favorite game to play, it's also good to pass time since most hands are pushes.

thats the only way to make it worth while playing poker out there. Either make it fun and maybe make some money OR be a grinder, hate your life, hate poker, and try to make a living at it and in the end you would be better off working at McDonalds!

Earl and i went out there one night and got seated together and were up a couple hundred a piece when the table closed.

They made us move and didnt let us take our stacks with us. This was back in the $100 buy in time period. So we bought into the new table and noticed they were playing super tight. Earl looked at me and said, lets loosen this table up by investing this $100. I said ok, and for the next 45min or so we went crazy, raise/reraise/all in. By the end of the night, we were up another $300-$400 each on this table.

Sometimes investing a little money can have nice rewards.

I remember playing up there one night and got ended up with a hand that was a royal flush. I of course got no action and it was folded on the turn. I showed my cards and asked the dealer for my free t-shirt. He said they didn't do that and after I told him to buy me one he said I needed to calm down or leave the table lol.

I don't understand this? Are you limited to a certain amount you can buy in for or something?

Yes, now its $100-$300

But normally when a table breaks and they make you move you can take your stack with you. Be it $150 or $3000.

Back then they decided not to let that happen.

Ive been telling you for years you need anger management classes.

WOW, i wonder why you left the casino down ;)

LOL I can vividly recall all 3 big hands I lost money my roll on. All of these someone was all in and I lost. Only these hands really hurt, you're gonna love these too.

1) I'm there 12 mins I get A-K spades and raise to 12 bucks. I get one caller. Flop comes down K-K-4, I bet 25 bucks. I get reraised all in, automatically I think the guy has 4s. After I decide he's full of shit from the way he was acting I call him. He has Jacks. Spikes the case Jack on the river and I wanna puke.

2) After smoking a couple cigs and taking a time out I decide to go play some more. This time I'm on the Big Blind and I have 9-3 so I check my option. Of course the flop comes down 9-3-3, boom flopped a joint on the 8 ppl in the hand and I'm first to act so I bet 20 bucks, figuring to only get called by someone with a 3. No I get re-raised all in by a guy with pocket 10s. I make the call. Turn comes with a 9 so I improve, River brings a damn 10 and I bust out again. I got in trouble with the BB but damn this table was sick.

3) I'm playing about 4 hours and have turned my third buy in into around $650 so I'm actually up $50 for the session. I'm under the guy so I raise to 8 bucks with 6-7 diamonds trying to change a gear. I get 3 callers no big deal I figure anything under 2 pair or flush draw I'll get out cheap. I hit the whole damn flop. 3-4-5 with two diamonds and I bet 35 bucks to show I was strong. I get re-raised to 100 bucks. Instead of calling I get greedy since I have the nuts and raise All In expecting this guy to turn over A-2 and be crushed. He has A-2 with the Ace of Diamonds. Turn and River bring a girl's best friend and the hand finished with him having the nut flush and me losing a $1400 pot.

I do like to mix it up once in a blue and gamble but when all the chips go in I have the best of it most of the time. Those make the top 10 of the biggest suckouts Ive had to deal with in life.

*Honorable mention A-K diamonds beat my pocket Aces by FLOPPING a flush while the guy was all in. I had pocket queens and got beat by a guy who had 4 of a kind jacks to my full house. I survived those. The three hands above though definitely hurt bad though.

I won money on Saturday night while I played so not that bad, only went to the ATM for $300. I plan on playing their all weekend every weekend, it's a fun game. I know I have more knowledge than those guys. Paul Baker sat and watched me for a while and I think he's signing up for my fan club. I also plan to go to Vegas and play a couple WSOP events this summer.
