Fungus Among Us (w/ pictures)

So we just got some narra in and are in the process of building the first cue with it. Last week, I grabbed the cue to give it another turn. I noticed what I think is some type of fungus on it.

Is my cue going through it's teenager years? It's growing a little, scruffy beard, now. Next, it's going to be staying out too late and back talking me. Isn't it?!?!

No, seriously, what is it? Is it going to affect the integrity of the wood? Is this going cause issues after it's finished? Am I going to have this crap growing out of the joint after it's sprayed? :sorry: Is it going to infest any of the other woods in the shop?


Either way, here are the photos. I'm just really curious at this point.

I believe that it is White Fungus, This fungus appear for humidity over 16% and darkness,

In your wood piece this fungus is superficial so wood will not be damaged, you should clean it only and apply a fungicide.

You should be careful with humidity of your wood store , if humidity down of 15-16% in your wood store and in your wood pieces not problem but if this humidity over 16% in your wood store or any piece you should aplly fungicide wood and to air well your wood store.

however is possible also that your wood store have less 15% humidity but this narra piece have over 16% humidity so this piece is not dried. You should verify humidity in all wood pieces and in wood store as soon as possible.

Haha, nice. Actually, I checked it last week with the moister meter. It was surprisingly low.

I think you might be onto something. It's been raining like crazy here. We've been jokingly referring to it as "monsoon season." Seven inches of rain just this month. Still another storm and half a week to go.

Also, we keep the cues in a box with a bunch of cardboard tubes placed in it vertically. All of the cue is in the tube, in the dark, except the butt sleeve. The butt sleeve doesn't have any fungus on it. Just the forearm, which is in the dark.

It should be fairly dry in here. We have the AC on. The narra is fairly dry too. We've checked it. It may just be too sloppy wet here for the AC to keep up. It's been sooo humid as of late.

I'm going to lay it out in the light and see if it clears up when the weather comes around. I'll see if I can't find some fungicide too.

I might be checking the cardboard tubes also. If somehow they have gotten damp they would be an ideal candidate to transfer or promote your fungus.
