Refinishing my cue

Hey guys.I've got a nice matching set of cues from the phillipines that the finish is acting up on.Y'all know how the difference in the climates affects some of them.Anyway,I'm pretty inclined to do most anything and was gonna spin my cues up and sand them down and put a new finish on them.Just wanted to see if any of you cue building guys have any tips for me.Cue man billiards sells this stuff you brush or spray on-

"WATER BASED URETHANE- Custom Cue Finish! Very easy to use. Spray or brush on. Fast drying. Only 15 minutes between coats. $20 pint, $35 quart (This finish also works great using a PVC dipping tank)"

Anyone ever used this stuff??

When you say "acting up", What is the problem with the finish? Is the finish cracking above & below the wrap area, or is it flaking off? ...JER

When I say it is easy to use I am saying it is easy for an experienced repairman that has a lathe. It still has to be wet sanded and polished out on a lathe.

The finish is lifting in the joining areas like where the phenolic rings are butted up to the woods.I guess its the differences in the materials expanding.I figure if I get it right this time in this climate it will be Ok.Just like every other American cue I've had.

Sorry, but you are wrong, to try to refinish this cue. If the finish is lifting or cracking at the "JOINING AREAS", you're screwed. The cue builder did not secure these areas, with a good glue OR just did a piss poor job of glueing. When you refinish the cue, in a matter of months the finish will crack & peel at the same places. That's why I asked about where the finish is failing. I have seen it many times before & made the same mistake 20 years ago...JER

If I were you I'd try it, but do us a favor if it doesn't woprk out please let others know what not to do...JER

You got it bud!I'll try and post pics before I start stripping and before the refinish.Hey is there a certain thickness you want to stay within,you know in painting a car you can wet sand in between clear coats to get em slick and get that deep wet finish.

When you say "STRIPING", I hope you don't use a chemical stripper. They will eat your plastic parts...JER

No No man.I actually know what i'm doing and how to go about doing it.I've been turning shafts down,tipping,and all sorts of stuff for a long time.I've just never bit the bullet and bought a decent cue lathe.It's amazing what you can do with an air drill clamped in a vise and a few pins and attachments.It will get done the hard way,but it'll get done.
