US OPEN 9-Ball Qualifier June 20th JR Pockets, Denton, Tx.

I just saw this thread and have a question. I'm just curious about what makes this tournament a qualifier. I thought there was no qualifying for the US Open, if you enter in time you get to play, no qualifications required.

Thanks, sounds like a great event!

You're right... It isn't exactly a QUALIFIER per se...

The winner of this local tournament gets a pre-paid entry into the U.S. Open...

It's a good and cheap way for players to try and win an entry into a tournament that has what some might consider a prohibitively high entry fee...

It's a great idea and I wish I could have played today...

Get better & take it easy.

Sorry Kennan, I won't be able to play! I fell down 8ft. of stairs Friday and hurt my knee, hip, and shoulder.

Good luck all!

Charlie: Glad that you are alright. That could of been bad. We "Old Guys" need to be careful....... See you at the Leagues.

Thanks, so it is more of a satellite or super-satellite tournament, like the many that are held for the World Series of Poker. How does that work? Do the organizers of this event have a paid entry into the US Open with the player's name to be filled in later? I'm surprised there aren't more of these, but maybe being on the West Coast it doesn't holds as much interest since the travel expenses probably over-shadow the entry fee for the tournament itself.

Great idea and I think it's a win-win. Good luck!

Yeah thought I was going to get you down here, I put the original post in the monthly thread back in January, hit the local DFW area for the last two months, we got 28 though.

Thanks catchya next time

Go Doug, wish I could be there!

This old 240lb. body can't take hit like I took. Nothing broke but I'm bruised real bad. If I would have landed on my head everything would be OK, except they would have to repair the concrete floor.

The mini tourny for the quick exit players was taken down by David Parker over Robert Newkirk

5/6th went to Doug Winnet and Mauro
4th was taken by Zee
After dropping his second match 7-3 to Mauro, Noel came through the second chance bracket to take Mauro 5-2 and Zee 5-3 to take home home 3rd

A single race to nine for the finals, TJ Davis up 7-2 verse Chen in the alternating break match watched as Chen hit that gear we have all seen and he climbed back into the match, with a 5 to 1 run , now with TJ breaking at 8-7, B & R for the win.

2nd to Chen :clapping:
1st a well earned US Open spot for TJ Davis

He was so taken aback when filling out the form that for a moment could not remember his address. :p, you think he had never won a tourny before.

Good luck to ya in October you earned this spot for sure

We paid out just under 2000 plus the $600 entry into the Open

could not get the stream up and running big thanks to Ken for all the help

Also thankyou to all the spectators we had that suffered through the AC shutting down

Big props to all the players shooting well through the added heat.

To Roy the owner of JRs for letting us have this Open qualifier, Andrew Brown thankyou thankyou
to the staff Danny "new bartender" and hottie;), Indura and Nickie the other hotties (AC was down) ;)

great tournament with extremely high level of play. I'd pay $50 any time to play with those guys.

That A/C needs to be fixed! It was smoldering in there. I still say I would have won my second match if it had been 5 degrees cooler as I left a tough tough hanger on the edge of the pocket which would have almost surely dropped in a cooler climate :p

Congrats to TJ on the win... pretty amazing to hold off a stampeding bull like Chen. I have a feeling you'll be seeing Chen at the US Open anyways ;)

Well done,Kennan....TAP TAP TAP
Looked like a great turnout and a lot of fun when I finally got up there.
Looking forward to the next Capt.K event!

Yeah, we do the mini tourny for the players who go two and out , does not cost them anything, just gives them a shot at getting their entry fee back.
