Help with cue Identificaton please........New Info!......More Pics!

Hey all, I recently aquired an older looking cue. I'd love to know who made
it. 5/16-18 Piloted S.S. joint and stitch ringwork. I'm almost sure that the
second shaft did not originally come with the cue. The matching shaft
looks to have a curly maple shaft. Non ivory ferrules from what I can tell.
I'd like to know if its worth refinishing because the black material has
swelled and the cue is not all even. It did not come with a bumper, so
that doesn't help. I've included the maximum 10 pictures, but there is a
link to more at the bottom of the thread. The veneers do not split up the
middle, the go up the side, so maybe its a production, but I'd love to know
if anyone has seen this cue, or something just like it before. Maybe a model
number or something like that. Oh, and the points are not even.
About 1/2" from the highest to the loweset. Thanks in advance for any

I just took off the wrap, and found out that the cue is
indeed a full spliced cue with veneers. I hope that this
helps, and I will be posting more pics hopefully tonight.

It looked like a Josswest someone was selling on here but I highly doubt it is. Maybe get a new wrap put on and see if it is signed under the wrap.

Yeah, I may get another wrap put on, but I dont know if it would be worth
it overall. :thumbup:I dont know if Bill Stroud ever used a 5/16-18
joint either. Also, I believe that he mitered his veneers so the split goes
up the middle to the point.

Here are some more pics with the wrap and loose buttcap removed. Hopefully someone could have a idea, or a guess at least. LOL.

Still mulling over if I'm gonna take off the wrap or not, but looking for
opinions of if you think its a production, or custom. Thanks guys.
 
The joint and butt cap are just like what is on my old Helmstetter...and the pin is correct for it to be a Helmstetter...so that would be my best guess. If it is, these older Helmstetters play pretty darn sporty.

Thanks Lisa! That thought did cross my mind too. I havent seen an old
Helmstetter in person for a long time. I've also yet to hit a ball with it.
I am looking forward to hitting with the cue. Much appreciated. Dom.
 
Bump to the top. Just looking for some more opinions on if you think that
the cue is a production, or custom. Also, does the cue remind you of

Full Splice

I do have a very old Jensen with a 5/16-18, similar look, windows, etc. But it is probably an old Helmstetter

Hi Ted, long time no speak! It hits really nice with one shaft, and pretty
sporty with the second. After hitting with it, it was worth putting on a
new wrap and finding out what was underneath. Thanks for the input

I am still leaning heavily towards an older Helmstetter with this one...or, at the very least, the cue being produced at the Adam/Helmstetter facility. Here is a pic of the point bottom like what is in my old Helmstetter FS, and you'll see they look very much alike:

Thanks again Lisa, I am totally inclined to agree with you. The heights of
the points look very similar. Now would you, or anyone else know if maybe
Helmstetter sold any full spliced blanks at the time? I'm just trying to see
if maybe someone used a Helmstetter blank to make the cue.

Craig (manwon) has a lot in the way of info with regards to the cues made out of the Adam/Helmstetter facility. I m not aware of them selling any of their blanks, but that doesn't mean that they didn't.

However, he did give me contact info for the folks at Adam Cues, and someone there may know if your cue is indeed an old Helmstetter or even an Adam...and if so, what model # it may be.

Huebler came to mind at first glance due to the block work in the butt, however, I agree with everyone else Helmstetter is my guess
 
Well, so far the overwhelming favorite is an Old Helmstetter, with Mali
in a distant second. Just bumping it up to see if anyone else wants to
chime in with their $ .02. I did send out an email to the folks over at
Adams cues to see what they think. I've still to get and answer from
them. Thanks again all.

Ofcourse, it could just be that National ripped off those parts from someone else.
