Was Ronnie This Good This Young?

Yup, Ronnie won his first Uk Championship at 17, and made his first 147 in competition at 15.

O'Sullivan's talent was clear before that.

I remember reading about him in Clive Everton's magazine, Snooker Scene, when he had made his first century, aged 10 I think. And he fairly regularly got to the final stages of pro-ams when he was about 13.

I asked a friend who was a regular on the pro-am circuit whether O'S was tall for his age since he managed to cope with a full size table so well, or did he wear platform shoes? But apparently not - he had difficulty reaching the balls and his cue arm was at an odd angle because the table was too high for him. Didn't stop him knocking in the century breaks...

Luca's fundamentals are amazing for 14. Who has worked with him? He may be natural; however, I doubt very much he learned those fundamentals on his own. That is a strong combination of fundamentals & natural talent.

Here is an interesting article about his strengths and weaknesses:

It amazes me that he can take a very long full backstorke given his size. It's interesting watching his shoulder span out backward to get the cue back so far.

Nice thread! Thanks!

Ronnie was winning pro-am's when he was 14 and he was world class when he was 16. By world class I mean capable of beating anybody in the game.

Answer to my own question: Coached by Danny Moermans

It's going to be hard for another guy to come along & rival Ronnie O' Sullivans natural ability.
