Wood Core Question damage?

deposit

Just curious.........is that what you paid for the cue?

Well I can say that is a decent deposit. I wouldn't even consider that for $229

John<<---- wonders where people buy their parts to build an exotic cored custom for that money~~~~~~~~~~~

Even with insurance, in my experiences with UPS and USPS, if the outer box and inner packing is in perfect condition, they usually refuse to payout, claiming damage was done before shipping.
This appears to be a case of either the burl wasn't dry/aged properly or something else moved after construction, neither being the fault of the buyer or shipping company. I would think that an up and coming cuemaker would stand behind their work in order to protect their name.

Any cue maker would Dave, I have to wonder though, if the Amboyna was actually cracked before hand or if the core was forced through and caused the crack.

Very good point Mike. Another angle may be the cuemaker acquired this forearm thru a 'supplier' or ebay or such as a premade cored forearm and had nothing to do with the actual coring of it.
I have 2 such forearms myself that are just aging on my shelf waiting for other pieces of solid ambonya to dry(1-2 years more) so that I can make the butt sleeves. I check them every month or so to look for cracks etc.

I'd redrill that blank and glue my own selected dowel.
I don't think the supplier would use the best coring dowels possible.

Hmm...

Yes to the insurance. But he won't deal with me at all so I guess he won't file for that either, I am sure he knew the cue was in this shape before it was sent out.

I was so mad for 2-3 weeks over this, now I am just disgusted.

I am torn between posting his info all over or just hoping he gets better through this? But then again, his attitude and he might screw the next one over. Sheesh. I am just so disgusted.

Please PM me if you want his info.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Felix

Another thing I might mention...

This guy is new to cue making, so he could not move his cues at the prices you would think he could. His first cue was a 4 ebony point into maple w/ snakewood handle, ebony butt. It was nice, but the joint collars were all torn up when I got it. So, back it went.

I am done. Thanks again for letting me vent.

Felix

At this point, it's too late for insurance, usually it's like 48 hours after delivery to file a claim, which you can do as the receiver, the sender doesn't need to.
It's OK to vent, that's what is needed to relieve the pressure:D A new cuemaker that won't back up his work won't stay in business for too long, especially in this economy. I personally think if you gave him the chance to make it right and he refused, then post his name from here to the west coast and beyond. There are way to many 'Ed Wheat' and "Jeff Eason" types out there that need to be weeded out, and thrown to the wolves IMO. I'm by no means an accomplished cue builder, I only sell to friends at this time, and I know I have a lot to learn, therefore I will not advertise on here to sell a cue (not ready for primetime::smile:) I know my limitations. Good luck with the cue, maybe someone can help to possibly fix it.

At least three sayings come to mind.
'fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me'
'you get what you pay for'
'if its too good to be true it probably is'
Good luck getting this resolved

Maybe you didn't read the thread?

New builder=lower prices (in most cases)

Not a very encouraging thing to say when someone just got burned...acting like it is his fault! Shame on you. :(

FELIX, I'm sorry for your bad luck in dealing with a jerk. If he is
really not going to make this right for you after 2 transactions
and numerous emails, I too, think you should post his info to
save all of us the headache of accidently dealing with him.
Stop the madness before he gets to too many folks. I know
that it doesn't help you in any way but we are all in this
together...sort of... :) IF there is any chance that
he is going to fix this, I wouldn't ruin that by posting just yet.

Like someone else said, the post office doesn't just hand
out insurance claims...they would want to inspect the
packaging, investigate, etc. So to all those who think
insurance is the answer to all woes with the P.O.....
think again. :)

Again, I feel bad for you and no one should behave
in that manner!

229.00 plus ship.. :)
This is the 2nd inferior cue he has sold to me and won't make it right.

Felix

Two ??

After not making the first one right there should not have been a second one. But ... still ... it sucks that a cuemaker would do you like that.

Is that forearm cored?

Mail the cue back to him, file a claim with paypal explaining the cue was defective, that it misrepresented, and that it was returned but a refund was refused.
