Where is jimmy mataya?

This question has been ask on here many times. I think he still shows up at some events but does'nt play? Im gonna check the az player stats and see if he has cashed in any events recently. Well unless he changed his name to eddie mataya he is not listed in the stats and they go back to the yr 2000.

To my knowledge -- and this is subject to check -- the last tournament that Jimmy Mataya competed in was the Dragon 14.1 straight pool tournament in 2006.
He was an "invited" participant to the so-called world 14.1 tournament and did not qualify to compete. I am sure he was excited and happy to be playing in it.
Man, some of the stories he told me were hilarious about his experience at that tournament. I guess you had to have been there. :grin-square:
And I wasn't, but I wish I had been. Jimmy is an entertainer at heart when he plays pool, reminding me of a good friend of mine.

Was this the tournament he always shot at the 5ball first when he came to the table? No matter what position he had?
LOL! I didn't hear about that, but what I did hear, there apparently was a brutal rainstorm in the area during the event, and the ceiling was leaking water onto some of the tables. The matches went extremely long, and 6 p.m. matches were changed willy-nilly to 2 a.m. in the morning, to get the tournament over with in time. Needless to say, this didn't sit well with a few of the competitors, but a promoter's gotta do what a promoter's gotta do to get the tournament over with, I guess. It was a real Catch 22.
At any rate, Jimmy missed a ball and left his opponent in an awful position. The opponent comes to the table, looking confused. So Jimmy comes to the table, picks up the cueball and hands it to his opponent and says, "Here you go. Put it where you can see the ball better." The crowd roared. The opponent is happy. And Jimmy is doing what he loves best: entertainment.
