What Airport?

I prefer Hobby, because it's smaller. I've been through there twice without incident in my military days.

Thank you for your responses. I didn't wanna use one and find out the hard way there was one easier.

Anyone have some offsite hotel info-like what is close and reasonable in say a 2.5-3 star hotel?

gpeezy you live in Alabama, why don't you just drive your swamp boat down the coast to Galveston? :D

I'd love to just make a road trip out of it but I have some back problems after being seated for that long(12 hours). Fresh outta swamp boats anyway lol. I really enjoy flying anyway. Something about soaring way the hell outta Alabama at the fastest way I can really cranks my tractor.lol

Hobby

Thinking about going to the Galveston Tournament. What airport should I use there?

Bush (Intercontinental) Is in north Houston and is Houston's main airport.
Hobby airport is in south Houston and is about 30 minutes or so from Galveston and about 30-45 minutes closer than Bush but kinda in the hood.
For those who are looking for after hours action, Bush is very close to Bogey's Billiards, which is Houston's best 24 hour action hall.

Please do not listen to the dumb ass that responded with DFW, which is Dallas/Fort Worth, which is about 300 miles away.
Or to the guy that mentioned Ellington Field, which is a military airport.

Geographically, Hobby is a lot closer than Houston Intercontinental. I-45 Runs past both airports and dead ends in the Gulf of Mexico in Galveston.

Intercontinental is about 45 minutes North of Hobby. Hobby is about 45 minutes North of Galveston. These times are based on Non-Rush Hour traffic. Rush hour in Houston Runs from around 3:30 till past 7:00 P.M.

A lot will depend on what airline you will be using. If you are flying Southwest you will be going into Hobby. If you are flying Continental you will have to come into Intercontinental.

I think American and Delta fly into both.

Southwest flies out of B'ham direct into Hobby.

Use Hobby. The Galveston World Classic will have a shuttle service running from Hobby to the Moody Gardens. Check the website for other hotels nearby if Moody Gardens is to expensive ( there are several).

Right off of the www.theworldclassic.com website..

Airports and Shuttles:
Two airports service Houston and the surrounding areas. Flights into Galveston do not exist so travelers will need to arrive at either Hobby or Bush airports. Usually a good rule of thumb is the bigger the airport to fly into the cheaper the price. Granted there are exceptions, but I was just saying generally.

place to stay...

if you meeting or going with several people the perfect setup would be to rent a beach house in galveston for the week... you could google beach rentals in galveston and split the cost of the beach house..the bonus is it is off peak season so you could get a good deal...downside you would need to ge a rental car...just though i would through that out the for a option for people coming in a group or meeting people at the tourney..there are lots of beach rentals in galveston,,, less after huricane ,,,but still out there... good luck on your search for once it pays to live to live in houston and to be just and hour away from such a great event i hope.. mickey carroll
