The cue market sucks! (for sellers)

with the exception of a few makers i thought most of the cues were close to fairly priced. i mean things were always a hair expensive but there "were" some good deals
Sure there were good deals, but there were others that were getting up there. Of course, this is subjective and gets into "it's worth whatever somebody is willing to pay." I was talking as much about demand and the relative ease with which one could cash out of a cue.

We were lucky in the cue market it lasted longer than most other markets. The expensive watch biz crashed and burned over 18 months ago, we were flipping $50,000 to $100,000 watches like they were nothing-some as high as $400,000. Doing $500,000 packages was nothing. All the mortgage brokers etc were the customers. I saw it comming and dumped ALOT of watches and bought cues with the profit and my own $$$ too. Those watches are now down in value by 30-80% average is about 40% off the top of the market, whats worse is the watch market is totally gone, they hardly move. I was lucky to see that, sadly I didnt see the realestate market, back to cues:

I mention the watch market because it paraelles the cue market in some ways, different buyers, different markets they are both luxery items in a way. You kinda need a cue if you play for a living, a good watch helps in business so they are necessary but not manditory.

I think the cue market will get a bit worse in terms of how long it takes to move a cue, there just isnt the extra cash floating around now so the cues will sell but slower, it aint gonna die like the watch bizz did. When the economy picks up and there is less unemployment then cues will start to move again. Prices might drop below current levels if unemployment lasts for along time, inflation is comming but not for atleast a year so i'll leave that out.

Here is what I think will happen to the cue market in general terms:

The uber cues will be just fine.

The player cues($500-$1500) will be ok they will drop maybe 10%-20% at the most, and pick up when the economy does

the $2,500-$4,000 market, RIP game over. That sector of cue market is going to stay bad forever, Jays cues mentioned above are never going to recover to their full value, I lost lots on those kinda cues too, we all did. There are alot of new cue makers in that price point that all build good cues, there isnt much demand for $3,000 cues by people who just started playing last year.

Thats how I see it in broad strokes, I left out production cues cause I really dont know that market. I think pool will be fine in the long run, and i still have the damned flu I got from Jay!!

I would love to see what you got. Lean a cue and a for sale sign up against it so you won't get blasted. LOL

PS; If it a 63 Split Window Corvette Coup, you got my attention!!!

A few years back LOL I had the option of a 63 split window or a 61 hardtop. The 63 was about $3000 and the 61 $2200. I bought the 61, had a good friend respray the car then I drove the crap out of it. It was stolen with a near new Palmer Cue I just bought. I think I paid about $170 for the Palmer, real nice cue at the time. (Just to keep it pool related.)

Then one day I went out to go to work and the car was gone.:( Of course with the Palmer in trunk. I waited to long to renew my insurance, so you know how that story goes.

Do to the financial situation I bought a Corvair to replace the Vette. Well, it fell far short of that, not exactly a speeding bullet but it worked for my purpose at the time. I still have the title to the Vette. LOL

I had a Corvair also. I worked in a gas station at the time. I was always filling it up with oil and checking the gas! Oil was from the changes I did after school.
I almost bought a 63 split window coup also for $3,000. Buddy of mine got it. He did a button and tuck interior ans a frosted red paint job. His dad owned a gas station so I know they made it perfect. Dam I wish I had bought that one.

Man, I've been on this board for a while, and I have never seen cues move this slowly! Just a year ago you could move a good cue in a day or two.

Now, they have to be bumped for weeks. Seems the only thing selling are giveaway deals and the uber-exotics. I've been trying to sell a steal of a Jensen for awhile, and barely had any action. Last year this would sold in a day! What the F#$k! Definitey a buyers market now...

Any other sad stories???

I'm positive your not alone. Chances are though few will come forward and reveal they paid way to much for a cue. You know one of those super hitting monsters; that at least ONE guy has to say "At this price this won't last long". LOL
Or it hits a ton or all the other stupid must have comments etc etc etc.

Your cue is ok but IMO you should have the work done before you try to sell. I would not buy any cue that way.

I agree with the others. In general cues are way overpriced from the maker or someone selling a used one. As I said most won't admit that or they are just trying to dump off a cue they don't like for any number of reasons.

Then some sellers have a schill or wanna be to help entice buyers. The thing is many time this works, sad but true. Who was it that said there is a sucker born every minute? Well he was right of course.

The things that keep me from buying - and I do have money.

Over priced -- the big one.

Appearance

Not enough information -- when you buy something you want to know accurate specs. You should or your not doing you home work. Well, either that or you don't know enough about cues or care. You will care once you buy the bill of goods though. OOPS to Late!

Cell phone photos -- tacky, jeez buy or borrow a decent camera. Whats that you say, you spent to much for the cue and can't afford it? LOL

Taper roll -- give me a break. That's a fancy way of saying -- Its Crooked!

Small diameter shafts. I'll let the LD buyers jump on that one. I think an owner should really think about taking off all that good wood-- cause you can't put it back and in most cases will effect resale value.

I'll start there and go forward if interested. So far, especially in this market, I ain't buying!

JMHO of course.
