We were lucky in the cue market it lasted longer than most other markets. The expensive watch biz crashed and burned over 18 months ago, we were flipping $50,000 to $100,000 watches like they were nothing-some as high as $400,000. Doing $500,000 packages was nothing. All the mortgage brokers etc were the customers. I saw it comming and dumped ALOT of watches and bought cues with the profit and my own $$$ too. Those watches are now down in value by 30-80% average is about 40% off the top of the market, whats worse is the watch market is totally gone, they hardly move. I was lucky to see that, sadly I didnt see the realestate market, back to cues:
I mention the watch market because it paraelles the cue market in some ways, different buyers, different markets they are both luxery items in a way. You kinda need a cue if you play for a living, a good watch helps in business so they are necessary but not manditory.
I think the cue market will get a bit worse in terms of how long it takes to move a cue, there just isnt the extra cash floating around now so the cues will sell but slower, it aint gonna die like the watch bizz did. When the economy picks up and there is less unemployment then cues will start to move again. Prices might drop below current levels if unemployment lasts for along time, inflation is comming but not for atleast a year so i'll leave that out.
Here is what I think will happen to the cue market in general terms:
The uber cues will be just fine.
The player cues($500-$1500) will be ok they will drop maybe 10%-20% at the most, and pick up when the economy does
the $2,500-$4,000 market, RIP game over. That sector of cue market is going to stay bad forever, Jays cues mentioned above are never going to recover to their full value, I lost lots on those kinda cues too, we all did. There are alot of new cue makers in that price point that all build good cues, there isnt much demand for $3,000 cues by people who just started playing last year.
Thats how I see it in broad strokes, I left out production cues cause I really dont know that market. I think pool will be fine in the long run, and i still have the damned flu I got from Jay!!
