My Schon ferrule...

My vintage Schon (mfg. in 1985) has their standard ferrule material. (Micarta is what I was told it was back in the day)

It is quite a yellowish color, and I actually do not remember if it was any whiter.

I have cleaned it using all the standard methods, but the yellow doesn't budge.

Anyone have fix for this? A way to whiten it? Anyone else with the same problem on their vintage Schon?

If the ferrule is indeed Micarta, I doubt that you can lighten it up without sanding it, and then it will just yellow again. Whatever you do, dont have it replaced. I would guess that you could get a good trade for a new shaft with a little boot if it bothers you. Those old micarta ferrules are rare and they don't make that material anymore. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure that the micarta used in ferrules is naturally yellow... so, unless there's some way to bleach the ferrule (which I don't think you'd want to do), I do not think that there is a way to make it white.

Thank You. A replacement ferrule never entered my mind. It doesn't bother me enough to worry about it. I just wondered if anyone had a fix.

Thanks again!

Don't clean it! That yellow is where the magic is kept. Keep it yellow, that's how they look. I wouldn't mess with it at all.
