the killer rollaround

kenny. will you send you the adapter for free. shut it in the drawer of my rollaround toolbox.

Measure the depth of the hole.
Mark tap accordingly.
Tap to depth until you get close to the mark on the tap.
STOP!!!

PS. FWIW, that looks like a 5/16x18.
You're better off going with a 3/8x16 for several reasons.
Some more obvious than others.

I just got a long 5/16 X 18 yesterday. I've got a 10" 3/8 X 16 and a long 5/16 X 14 and now this long 5/16 X 18. The extra length for installing new pins after pulling bent ones.

Eutectic 16c brazing rod will braze that back together. But it will prob cost more than a new tap to buy all that is required.
We used to make our own long taps by brazing a tap to a piece of HT tube. The longest being about 400 mm. We put the tap into a tin of salt water while brazing, stops the 1st part of the tap being softened. Salt water is used as it has a higher boiling point.

Always interesting posts Neil, thanks.

I just noticed where you are from .. a lovely part of the world. I made a sales call on Waikato University many moons ago ... the IT Director had an office with a patio door out onto the grounds, what a great work place that would be, I've always thought. It even had room for a pool table, just to keep my rambling close to on-topic

Where do you suggest picking those up at?
Thanks
Tony

Nice meeting you at the MIdwest Cue SHow.

I got the 10", 3/8 16 years ago. it was a pulley tap and I had to grind the shaft down smaller than the threads. I got it from Travers if I remember correctly. I got the long 5/16 X 14 long ago from Atlas and I just got the long 5/16 X 18 from Schmelke last week.

By the way, it was nice meeting you also.

the rollaround killed it

i appreciate the cue makers who have sent responses as to how to use the 3/8 16 tap. once again it was shut into the rollaround drawer box and broken when the drawer closed. i thought would bring a little humor and levity.
thx rdh

Yeah, Waikato is a nice are to live. The hobbit shire was filmed not far from here in Matamata, still waikato district. My son is at the university now.Did they have the lake and park area when you were there?
They do now and is very nice surrounds.

I think it is funny that the tap broke in the draw.Better that than down a cue.
I saw at work on friday what happens when hydraulic equipment runs low on fliud and air gets into the system. They topped up the fluid but did not bleed the lines. The result was the unit slamed into itself without the product in place as a cushion. The rollers were munted and a redfaced service engineer had to see the Boss.

I can't recall, that was over 20 years ago. I do remember this fellas office reminded me of some resort bungalos I've stayed in over the years ... I'll bet he had a bar hidden in there too
