Seems like it would be like trying to get a moon rock. Back when they were doing the restoration project I donated a considerable amount of money to it. I had never heard anything about being able to get a piece of the statue though.

do you want it specifically from the statue of liberty? If yes, then why is my question?

I agree with the above, you can't get a piece of that lol. At least I doubt it, its not like they are changing the skin or something. If you need old copper green copper, then just make your own out of copper sheeting from the hardware store. You can buy a kit to age it. I've seen it done properly and it turns out very nice.

I have about three pounds of that. I will sell it for $10,000 a pound. It's been disguised as penny coins so that the authorities won't know what it is. If need be I can get more, but the price will be higher.

There are some pieces out there BUT getting any of it would be another story. OCC had a few pieces that were from the restoration and put into the design of one of their choppers. You might contact the person who commisioned the bike. Even if you find some I bet the price is high enough to make even Bill Gates shutter..

Actually, I believe that if you know the right people it's not out of the question. I remember the Teutels, of Orange County Chopper, did a tribute bike and received some pieces from the Statue of Liberty restoration project which were used in the plating process of the brightwork. You might do a search for plating companies near NYC . That's where the scraps would have had the most value IMHO.

As an American AND a New Yorker, it makes me a little sick that there would be a discussion on buying Statue of Liberty copper. Um, in case you guys didn't notice, THE STATUE IS STILL STANDING! I don't care if there are left-over pieces from the restoration project, there shouldn't be a market for it. I appreciate the fact that someone is so enthused about the statue that they're motivated to attain a piece of it but it's not theirs to have nor keep. Every flake of copper, every ounce of stone belongs to the People of the United States.

As a patriot and a veteran I respectfully disagree. I would take a hard line against anyone trying to illegally remove any piece of the statue for their own, but the pieces removed during the restoration IMHO would be best suited for plating projects where people could "own a little piece" of the Statue of Liberty with the profits going to a 911 relief fund or any suitable humanitarian project. Makes better sense than just recycling the stuff or even moreso storing the junk parts into eterinity! I don't see anything unethical, distasteful, or disrespectful in doing so!

There you go. I don't agree with it but there it is. Personally, I think there are some things not meant to be owned but that's me. Thank you for your service to our country.

Hey Jude, may I snip some of the material from your pant cuffs to integrate into a quilt I'm making? Or better yet, let me clip a bit of that leather from the strap of the sandal you're wearing. This way, I can say "Made in Woodstock from Rosenstock's Birkenstock," but then again that's just poppycock from an admitted crock.

:D

Wish I had known. My wife and I were just in NYC a few weeks ago and got to go up into the crown of the SoL. I guess I could have taken along some tin snips :-)
