Invitation to join main forum as a registered member

I was just checking out who was online with the search features available to all members and noticed how many "GUESTS" were online VISITING or what some others call "LURKING".

It's pretty incredible how many people just visit, read and never REGISTER.

So, I just wanted to encourage the GUESTS/LURKERS/VISITORS to Register and become a regular member of the Main Forum.

There are some perks to becoming a member, too many to list.

But I was just thinking about how many potential GREAT POSTERS are out there and wanted to invite you to join as regular members.

There is no cost and no obligation to becoming a regular member.

My reason for inviting you is kind of selfish: I simply like to see new members posting their ideas and perspectives about the sport we all share and love. You can make a difference by adding to AZ Billiards diverse group of posters. You aren't obligated to post but if you are registered you can crank out a post or two and who knows, you might like it and become addicted like the rest of us. :grin-square:

You email address doesn't get sold, traded or anything else and as a REGISTERED MEMBER, you get the opportunity to start your own threads, polls and get a chance to tell us what you think about our questions and posts. No one calls you trying to sell you anything.

REGISTER AS A NEW MEMBER TODAY! :)

After you register, start a new thread titled: "NEW MEMBER"
and introduce yourself. You may make some nice friends and learn something useful in the process.

I agree, I have to wonder how many have attempted at one time to register and just never got all the way through the process... When I first found this site, I read the topics for an hour or so and figured I'd register. Im pretty familiar with internet forums and I had been a contributing member of different types of forums before finding this one. I registered and it says you have to wait for the admin to approve your membership before posting....

I lurked a bit for a week or so waiting for my "application" to be approved... I think after around a month or not knowing what was going on with it and being aggressive about wanting to contribute and having my eye on something I wanted to purchase via the wanted forums... I sent a couple e-mails to all the names/e-mail addresses I could find on the front page... Guess the squeaky wheel got the grease and my profile was approved... rest is history.

I just wonder if others not as familiar with forums and as aggressive about wanting to speak up haven't pushed to get there voice heard and settled with just lurking...

Also, I believe that if you don't check the "remember me" when you log in (puts a cookie on your CPU) or you visit from multiple CPU's when you first come to visit and you don't log in each time, you are seen by other members as just a vistor... so a bunch of people that just pop in during the day from work or what not, appear as "vistors" by the software when in fact 90% of them may also be registered members who just haven't logged in? Dunno.

I was a "lurker" for over a year.....I think the mentality around it is if you want to use this as a learning tool. This forum is hands down filled with the largest wealth of knowledge dealing with pool around. You have everyone from amateurs to pros, to leading industry professionals. You can find out info about any pool related subject on the message boards quicker than by visiting any website. However as with any forum you have the "drama". If you are not a registered user you don't have to deal with it. For example in my first week I received "red rep" over a thread I started titled " This is Gonna Hurt DCC" the reason for me posting the thread was to aware the public of the scheduling conflict and hopefully start a discussion based on that. Anyway, to make a long story short I have had a blast on here now that I am registered and can't wait to finally meet some of the people on here by visiting some pro events (Turning Stone in 10 days).

Also I believe that every "lurker" will eventually register because you can only hold your tongue for so long.

As much as I would love to see more members join, I wish that SOME posters wouldn't berate them for posting their opinions when "they have such a low post count" or because they are new. I hate seeing those. We were all new here once.

Yeah! Heck some people with losts of posts, like just over 5000, should be berated before newbies. ;) J/K! Good point S&M. :eek:

Great OP Joey. That's a real nice welcome mat of encouragement. I wouldn't be surprised that new registrations make a nice bump as a result. :thumbup:
 
Ok...you lured me out of hiding. I have been registered for a while, but haven't posted. I played a WHOLE lot about 10 years ago and off and on since. Job, wife, other hobbies, etc. have kept me away from the game. I do play every now again in local tournaments or when one of my old buddies that still plays pass through my area. I live in Jupiter, FL now. I'm originally from Mississippi and played in and around the Hattiesburg area. If your from that area and played about 10-15 years ago, I bet you know me. Thanks for the invitation, at least you brought one of us out of the woodwork.

Welcome Woof Biscuit. Great name! I've spent a lot of time in Jupiter. My parents, RIP, lived right next to the lighthouse and I went often. I love the area. Cheers to many good posts.

On another note...

I really do not understand the invisible mode, what have you got to hide?? There are forum users here that are always in the invisible mode WTF get out of the freaking closet it's only a forum for cripes sake!!

"Club Member" status is for those who want to show off. Me, I'm one of those guys who likes to stay off of the radar. Wearing that LOUD yellow sticker would draw attention to me and that's not my style. :blush::lol:

Oh yeah, since some of the lurkers might be reading this, let me tell the rest of the story. Club Membership status is a way to show extra appreciation to the forum owners and you can PURCHASE it for a nominal price.

In return, for the Club Membership, you get one of the world's best looking AZBiliards Key Rings and some additional space for your PM's (Private Messages). There are some other benefits, I just don't know what they are but at least, unlike some people (Sean), I don't mind sharing the information with those of you who are just joining.

See what you made me do Sean. I oughta RED REP you. :slap::yes::thumbup:

Thanks for the rep dawg!!! Nice to meet u too. Joey, my initials are not JM (with the nickname Lil J) if that's what you were thinking. He has a goofy grip. He is one of my best friends though. We grew up together and started playing together. He was just down this way a couple of weeks ago to play the seminole tournament and then the tourney over in the Tampa area.

Not trying to drop names, but I am/was friends with little sal, eddie brown, shawn dykes, snake at snakes palace, Jay Bird, little robbie, luke from gulfport, etc....that whole crew. We played down at 2 sisters, the sports palace, ivory palace, etc.

One of the responsibilities of being a member of the forum is to learn not to take criticism too seriously. It's a forum where people don't see the inflection or hear the tone of your voice. Besides, it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round.

BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!! Joey, I couldn't post a reply right away, because I was laughing *SO* hard after reading this! Thanks for making my day!

For the lurkers out there -- JoeyA's right on. The Club Membership is one of the best methods, along with patronizing the AZB Marketplace, to support the site. I've always supported the causes I partake in, and I don't mind wearing the blazing yellow badge on my avatar. Just like I don't mind outright stating that I support AZBilliards, not only with a Club Membership, but by making some of my pool/billiards purchases via the AZB Marketplace.

The bennies that JoeyA mentioned are correct -- more PM storage (one doesn't have to empty it out on as frequent a basis as non-members -- nor have to put up with one's avatar being posted on the Main Forum with a "hey so-and-so, empty out your PM box!" forum thread, right, JoeyA? :D ). And a nice keychain that looks great on one's cue case -- and doubles as an easy-to-grab extended handle for the case's zipper. Finally, there's bennies in the AZB Marketplace itself, too, if I'm not mistaken. (Jerry Forsyth can elaborate better on this, since the AZB Marketplace recently went through an overhaul and I'd not purchased any pool/billiards-related items since that overhaul a couple weeks ago.)

In my humble opinion, the Club Membership is well worth the nominal price, especially if one spends a significant amount of time reading/learning/posting/sharing/contributing here. Support the causes that support you!
