*** Official Mosconi Cup 2009 Thread ***

It is the Captain's picks, and before the Cup started I read that there were two matches where the captain picks for the other team.

If so, it can only be the last match

I was wrong, match 5 and match 7 was picked by opponent's captain.

Corey Deuel - Thorsten Hohmann and Oscar D - Ralf Souquet

IF Euro's are fluking in all those matches, the Captain's will pick the players on the other team to play.

I expect Oscar Dominguez vs Niels Feijen if that happens

Hmm, sounds slim.

If there is a 50% chance to win each match (including this Hohmann match) then Europe has a 1/32 chance of winning.

Hohmann is leading so he is probably more 2/3 chance atm so we have

1/2 X 1/2 X 1/2 X 1/2 X 2/3 = 2/48 or a 1/24

chance of winning the Mosconi Cup from here.

I am feeling pretty bad for ya ATM Roy so I am willing to take your $200 to my $10 and I will sweat Europe from here to win the cup.

Win win for you, you get $10 or Europe wins!

no, the captains have already chosen oponents in two matches. It was the first singles match and the 3rd if Im not mistaken. The only stip was that in the second choice match the captain could not choose someone that had already played.

yeah yeah yeah, rub it in

Europe 1 USA 1

damn

yes, the 21st match each team picks a guy to play if it comes to it, so it would be possible for shane or ralf to play 3 singles matches today

Does this mean we could see Dennis back in the Mosconi Cup deciding match if it goes 10-10?

I would truly be surprised if they did not put him in there as their own pick to win the cup, I am guessing it would be a Ralf vs Dennis match for the cup.

Wow. I'm hoping the US can wrap it up before then, but can you imagine the incredible drama of a 10-10 winner-take-all final match between Dennis and Ralf?!?!

If Thorsten wins this and USA win, there is no doubt that Hatch will be the MVP

If Archer can climb a mountain again, he should be the MVP

I know singles will decide the tie, but I don't see where the rules provide this opposing captain pick thing again. The rules on matchroom's web site say captains pick twice, not 3 times.

CAPTAINS will play a bigger part than ever before in the 2009 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup as they can twice pick who plays for the opposition!

With the 2009 event a little over a week away, Matchroom Sport can announce the format and schedule for play over the four days of the event.

There are a total of 21 matches in place to determine the destination of the famous solid silver trophy and this year there are a few changes in order to allow more players to play more matches. Successful partnerships in the doubles will be one-offs as no pairing can appear more than once.

The onus this year is firmly on the two captains - Alex Lely and Nick Varner - to employ all their experience and plot a strategy that will win their side the Mosconi Cup.

In a complete departure from previous years, Singles Matches 5 & 7 will see the captains decide who plays for the opposition rather than their own teams!

Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said:"In previous years, the captains understandably stuck with the winning partnerships, but for 2009 there will be no place to hide and all ten players will feel the full heat of battle.

"Similarly, everyone will have their nerve tested in singles play, rather than let the in-form experienced players carry the team. Picking the other team's man for a couple of games will involve real reverse psychology, so we will see which of the two captains makes the most of it."

It would be a huge contrast in styles, a rock solid emotionless businesslike performance of perfection from Ralf against an emotional fired up performance from Dennis.

You are working slow

We've settled this a loooong time ago ;)
