Beloit, WI - The Carom Room - $1000 Added - Dec 12th - "No Masters" 8-Ball

Do you think Dave would bring in more tables if he changes it to 128 ? Because of the time factor ?

Going to 128... Is possible for next season (starting Sept 2010) but will require some sort of change. More tables or staggered start times might help. With continued support by all of the players throughout this season I'm sure Dave & the tournament committee will work on providing bigger & better events for next year.

Duane, you guys run an outstanding tournament, the only problem is the waiting times. But I'm sure Dave will do whatever it takes to accomodate more people.

hey duane, what master's list do you and dave go by? just curious...

There is not just one list. We use several lists, previous results and known ability. Feel free to pm with questions about current or future entrants...

Duane

one that allows chad elston. adjust accordingly.

Are you saying Chad is a master? lol. You must be going by the Wisconsin BCA list that ranks players based on what a small group of people think and not how players actually preform. Chad is a solid player but is not by any means a master. Shit, he hasn't even won a no-masters event over the last two years in Beloit. He hasn't won in Oshkosh either and he comes to all of our tournaments up here.

Dave and Duane (and Jeremy here in Oshkosh) are all more then competent enough to know who is and who isn't an actual mater caliber player and we should all respect the decisions they make.

lets say a guy who won the illinois state acs tournament and played on the national master's team with ike runnels? would that guy qualify as a master or "someone of known master ability?" i'd also like to point out thatsome people may feel it is better to have a high cash, than win one of these tournaments. that way you don't get kicked out and come back to do it again another day. just a thought. so... how about that jasong gongol?! acs state championship doesn't mean anything huh? guess not :)

I understand you think Jason is too good for the "no masters" tourney. He's played & hasn't won. He's a strong player and surely borderline. One more good result and he probably will be moved up. In the meantime his status is unchanged.

His BCAPL team did win in Vegas. He is called a "team master" in their terminology. Did he win the IL ACS tourney last March? If he did then he would be dubbed a "state master". Those state results aren't posted and actually I thought I heard that Joey Gonzalez won the open singles. We let Joey play in the tourney and you didn't complain.

If you think he's a good player then buy him in the calcutta. If you want to win yourself then practice, study & take lessons.

ooooh damn dwayne that was harsh buddy. actually I spoke with dan taylor, the gentleman who ran the acs state tourney and he said jason did indeed win it, regardless I think this should be called the "select masters" tournament from now on :)

p.s. last time i bought a monster player in a calcutta, Mr. timmy too good to play in the "no masters" from toledo ohio, and he went 2 and out to nobodys... so I don't think I'll be making that purchase you suggest. it's dissappointing to think about all of the guys that are consistant high finishers between your tourneys in beloit and jeremy's in oshkosh knowing that some of them well never win a tourney or finish too high, because the money is just right in the 3rd to 6th and even 7th 8th range two or three times a year... jack wu... jason gongol...just a thought. not that pool players sandbag or anything :)

You are pointing out one player that is borderline. There is always going to be a favorite in any handicapped or level secluded tournament - that is ok as long as Duane is not playing favorites.

-Watchez <---can't draw my ball and hates to practice

Joe, you just don't get it! Winning one event makes him a "state master". Those are borderline players typically. Jason played in a 128-player "no master" division in MN (Shooting Star Classic) the 2nd week of Sept and finished 17th. Doesn't sound like he is too good.

I've heard from others he used to play well and was apparently out of the scene for a while. Now he is playing and doing good. Let nature take it's course.

great job

Joe Gonzalez did win the open last year Jason might have won a previous year. To win a state open does not make you a national master.
The job Duaune and Dave is doing is fantastic. They dont seem to be scaring to many away. This tournament is getting to be the talk of the area we dont need to be bashing anything they are doing.

does this mean that shane shouldnt be allowed to play because he was on the winning team in vegas a couple years ago. or maybe u think gil should be able to play because he isnt on the national master list? maybe u should hang out in rockford where they consider chad and jason masters.

its real easy to check the masters list and tim heath, aka tim powel is on that list, for good reason. the fact that he tried to sneak into the osh kosh tourney with a fake name should go into your wisdom of pool etiquette book. maybe u could start a petition. im sure 5 or 6 people agree with u.
