First lesson with Scott Lee

that's ironic because I am probably more educated than your whole family

some people learn....

some people think they know it all..

one group gets better day after day..

the other group stagnates...

you are either getting better .. or you are getting worse...

it's what you learn after you know everything... that matters

Maybe you should act like it then, Dr. Driz, but I guess when you're performing brain surgery all day or designing the replacement to the space shuttle, it's okay to badmouth someone else's occuation on an internet forum.

Okay I guess I shouldn't have encouraged him, but oh well.

Teacher/Student

I think it goes like this.....You are/I'm a teacher and will look for things in your ability and correct them to get you to the next level, not mine.....I'm a student and want to learn things to get to the next level and beyond but need a teacher to help me get there. All pros are not teachers as all teachers are not pro players....jmho....yes and I play/teach also, so I know both sides.

The Renfro...Just FYI...a good instructor can teach you everything you mentioned, as well as (possibly better than) a pro player. Many pro players are great at demonstrating, but not so good at communicating concepts.

If you are gonna spend some jack then make sure it's going to have a long term benefit. I'll pay good money to a pro player for a lesson on breaking the balls or analyzing the rack, jumping technique or even percentage analysis as to when to run out or when to play safe...

The Renfro

Just my 2 cents

So you only want to learn from someone who can't make a living either playing pool or teaching pool?:grin::grin:

No. I believe that John Binion can and does make a decent living doing both. Although he doesn't make the trips out of state as do other players his caliber, he plays well above pro speed and is a former amateur national champion and 2 time runner-up. Wrong again sir.

Great Christmas Present

What a gift! You will look back on this years from now and be glad your better half was so thoughtful. Scott is an exceptional teacher, and has exactly the skills necessary to advance your game. Back in 1993,when tasked by the BCA to develop a Summer Camp Program for Kid's to learn pool,I wrote down 4 names on a paper of who I thought would be the best Instructors for these young people. The names in order were, Jerry Breisath,Randy Goettlicher,Mark Wilson, and Scott Lee. These are all accomplished players and teachers without peer. When we went to the East Coast the next year, I added Fran Crimi from New York. She is also a great player and a fabulous coach. Good Luck,Learn Well, and Merry Christmas.

Steve,

jdxprs is one of those APA 7's :)

I'm really not sure what that is supposed to mean.?

But, in the most respectful way I can muster this response..

Be careful while your joining in on this internet forum "pig pile" on jdxprs that you don't fall off the pile and end up on the bottom of it.

That blind stab you just took at those APA7's was every bit as weak and shallow as jdxprs's blanket statement about non-world beaters having little to teach.

Respectfully,
~D4\/\/G~

Scott can demonstrate anything he teaches. I saw him shoot a table length shot drawing the cue ball back the entire length STRAIGHT back. I wanted to see if he would drop he elbow putting that much stroke on the ball. He did not. A beautiful shot.

How many baseball batting coaches have won batting titles or even have 300 averages? Not many, yet pros go to these guys because they can teach.

You are correct sir I should have typed one of "those" APA 7's as certaintly not all players are the same and many APA 7's have a wealth of talent and sound fundamentals.

Thank you for pointing out my error in judgement. My point being, that some people and perhaps not even jdxprs, feel that once they have hit that level of skill they can't improve or be taught anything about their fundamentals. I was merely stating my opinion.

Thank you again for your comments.

Scott gave me a lesson a couple months ago. My game has jumped a ton. I don't know if it was strictly the lesson, but it didn't hurt. He opened my eyes to a lot of things and surprisingly told me I was already doing a lot of things right.

Mr Binion is a very highly respected teacher.....SPF=randyg

Randyg...I've heard the same thing. John Binion is one player who can communicate well with his students. IMO he is an exception, among many pros who "teach".

This great Country needs more just like him.

Just think if there where a dozen or more recognized Pool Schools all around the USA. Kinda like golf camps. Skill levels would rocket and we would not have to travel so much.....SPF=randyg
