Need advice for new wrap please

Hi, I have a Southwest with a leather wrap that I recently removed. It was a smooth leather wrap that was coming undone and seemed to stretch with finger prints xtc... While I like the feel of leather, the smooth leather seemed to "move" to much.

Is it possible to replace the leather with Irish Linen? I've heard that the wrap area has to be built up? Is that I major pain, or is that relatively simple? I don't really want to replace with Linen if it "alters" the cue too much or can create problems.

If I go with leather, is there such a thing as smooth leather than does not stretch so much? If I use textured leather, is that more stable (ie. less stretchy)? Is the thickness the same?

I guess what I'm looking for is a nice "hard", "stable" wrap area. I would like it to be as "seamless" as possible. Any ideas?

Lastly, who's good at doing these kinds of wraps? It's a fairly nice cue and I would prefer good quality work.

Consider CORK, repels moisture, is sanded to size and comes in many different shades. Done right it's the nutz
 
I'm thinking of getting a Kangaroo wrap that really feels great. But, I never thought about the stretching possibilities. Anyone here use a Roo
wrap and if so does it stretch or have the reputation of stretching?

I had a cue with a cork wrap done by Guido Orlandi and I really liked it. But I'm looking for a wrap that is Burgundy in color and don't think cork comes in that color. (??)
 
For seamless feel a Stack wrap might be the way for you to go. We need to know how deep your existing wrap groove is to give an answer to most of your questions. Leather blanks vary in thickness some. Irish linen gives almost no problems and out lasts leather normally. Yes there are smooth leathers that are firm instead of stretchy. Most textured leather will be firmer than what you seem to have now. Since you mention figer prints in your leather, it may be possible you have very acidic sweat and no leather wrap will hold up for you.

Thanks. I wish I had an acurate way to measure the wrap groove. I prefer irish linen to leather, but don't want to alter the wrap groove. I don't think acidic sweat is a problem, the leather that was on the cue stretched and left finger indentation from the day I got it.

Perhaps my best bet is to send it to someone who is skilled in putting on wraps and have them evaluate the cue. Unfortunately, there is nobody in Colorado that I am aware of that is good at leather wraps.

Chris Byrne is around the Denver area and could handle it easily. Coating the wrap groove with a coat of epoxy to build it up to the right depth if needed should not cause any problems. It would actually super seal that area, which would be a benefit. If you want linen by all means get someone to install linen.

I forgot about Chris Byrne. I don't know him, but I've heard nothing but good things about his work. I'll check into it. Thanks again Chris.
 
I got my Predator BLAK series cue done with the STACK leather wrap. It is a smooth finish and very rigid. I have never regreted putting it on since i got it and i love the finish. I had the guy from tiger do it at the apa nationals in Vegas. This might be the way to go for you. Call tiger with any questions you have and you can ship your butt to them....i will attach a picture when i get home so you can see what it looks like...i got mine in black and white to match the cue colors.

Doug, I highly recommend Chris Byrne for leather wraps.
