"For Love of The Game"

As January 1, 2010 (which is not that long ago), I started to create at least one oil painting per week and post them on my blog. Each original painting is for sale through my "tinahoupaintings" store on eBay. I enjoy paint direct observation in an expression style. I often paint outdoor or from the light box that I set up in my studio. One of my wildest dreams is sneaking in with my paint box in my APA nights, hiding in a corner and painting people playing pool. The only problem is I am afraid the smell of turpentine and oil paints might effect player's performance (Who knows maybe they will get high and play better....)

Here is the painting tribute to the game that I love.

Take a digital still picture of them playing, have it enlarged and use that as your muse.

Just a thought.

That would be really neat to have a HD 3D hologram projector at home that I can pause anytime......But before that happens, markpatrick, I will try your way! :)

post more and keep up the good work

Very nice Kitty. Keep up the good work.
As to the turpentine, a friend of mine who paints, uses clove oil to suppress the odor of the turp. The down side is his house smells of clove. :thumbup2:

Take my billiard friends' advises. ;)
Using a photo as reference and paint it with my own interpretation.
Man! It's not easy to paint people!!!
And this painting took me too much brush strokes.
I need to think through before I get down and shot... Oh- I mean "PAINT"!

More practice on the stroke!

By the way, Tramp Steamer, I switched to Citrus Thinner. And I also used Walnut Oil as my medium. (NOT the cooking kind! Otherwise, afte it turns rancid, nobody will visit my studio. :P) Now my studio smells like Orange Walnut.

Kitty, my only experience with art was a history course in college, but the painting you have presented here seems to project a bit of the 'impressionist' style, don't you think? Monsieur Monet would be proud.

The snap!

Perfect facial expression! Good job. How about some guys woofin' each other. My gosh , when you start thinking the game has a thousand things going on, off the table as well as on. Makes me wish I had your talent.

Tramp Steamer, after you mentioned about Impressionist, I had to dust off my "Impressionists Side By Side" book. :) And I always like John Singer Sargent, too.

12310bch, I agree with what you said. There are so much stories waiting to be painted about people in the game or off the table. I really want to capture the spirit of the game in my paintings.

Maybe tomorrow I will see if I can paint another one. But tonight I am going to a pool hall to get my inspiration! A 9ft. table can boost up my creativity.

Kitty, you've got to check out the thread, "Another caption pic," posted about an hour after your last post.
