The Spinali bridges...yes the original...look identical to the knock-offs except...when viewed side-by-side, there is an obvious difference in quality. With the knock-offs, you will need to sand down the mold lines, or else they can create a dinger or scratch...also, the center grommet in a bit beefier in the Spinali, and does not shift on the end of a cue. I would also say the plastic used might be of a higher grade as well...I say this as I just gave away my old knock-off moosehead, because i found and bought 3 Spinali's off of eBay a while back...and when the gal went to put it on the end of her cue...darn thing snapped clean in two! It was fine when I gave it to her...LoL. Seems to me like the knock-offs are not quite as thick as the original...but I could be wrong.
They both do the same exact thing...and finding the original Spinali's are getting almost impossible. They were invented and produced by Spinali Woodworking, of Modesto, CA. The original's grommets were designed to fit shaft diameters of 11-13.5mm. The ones I have were all packaged with a small American flag sticker/decal.
I still find that I prefer the moosehead style bridge to any other, and they are the easiest to pack around inside one's case pocket. I know I will not go anywhere without one...as most local taverns still have the older metal bridges, and no way I am putting a nicely groomed shaft into one of those!
