i have a Poison ST1 currently but just dicovered a manufacturer defect of a rotten internal shaft. so now since im sceptical about using there product i was wondering what would be a good cue in the same relative price range. suggestions?

mcdermott. made in america.

or i have a viking with joint protectors and a j&j 1x1 case im selling for 175 shipped. its in the for sale section.

I see the model you have sells for around $220. In that price range the usual suspects come to mind.
Joss
Mcdermitt
Viking
Lucasi
Perchauer
You can't go wrong with any of these but from what I've read right here on this forum most people will give the nod to Perchauer as a cut above the others.
If you don't mind a used cue there are some great deals in the For Sale section. Just be careful as to who and what you buy.

Good advice. FWIW I love buying good-condition used cues. A cue is like a car in that much of the depreciation occurs right away. As soon as you chalk the tip your typical cue will lose 20% of its resale value. Also if you are local you can usually try out a used cue before you buy it, which makes all the difference in the world.

Joss and Pechauer may be hard to find in that price range but they are known for being the better playing cues from that list.
