Hello,

I have a question about the Penn State motor http://www.pennstateind.com/store/TCLVSKIT.html

Is there anyone that knows how you can take out the on off switch and replace it with a reverse off forward swicth instead of adding a second switch to acomplish reversing?

I don't have one of these motors however I know that it is a DC motor and speed controller. You may just want to leave that switch alone. You would want to add a double pole double through switch. In order to reverse the direction you will just need to switch the two motor leads with each other. Now you will not want to do this while you are running the motor. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply. I know that I can switch the black and white wires to get the motor to reverse. I want to be able to use a switch to use forward and reverse on demand. It would be easy enough to add a dpdt switch between the motor and controller but I was hoping that this could be accomplished by changing the current switch to a dpdt with some sort of wire jumper config.

reversing the pennstate dc motor

I have installed a double pole/double throw toggle switch below the main switch on mine. You can see a simple diagram at http://www.instructables.com/id/HOW-TO:-Wire-a-DPDT-rocker-switch-for-reversing-po/ they show a rocker switch but the same wiring would be for the toggle. I think the main switch controls the power supply 110 volt so putting the reversing switch there would not work. You need to install this switch in the wires that go to the power cord of the going to the motor. Just remember this is 120 volt dc so still will bite so do all the unplugging and all that stuff. Pretty close quarters in that location, I wrapped the switch with elec tape for added protection.
Hope this helps....
Les
