I have a friend who wanted me to see if anyone had any information about Joe Porper cues, especially any older customs that might have been made. Unfortunately, he didn't have much info on the particular cue he's looking at, just that the owner was asking 1500 for it. Any and all info is appreciated.

Joe made a lot of cues for a long, long time and did most of the work himself. His best work was probably starting in the year 2000 or so for about five years - where he began making higher end cues, including his Tuxedo series.

Each cue has different values, but basically his prices are middle of the road. For a street value of $1500 it would have to be one of his higher end cues.

His highest dollar cue of all times won an award at a cue show and sold for around $10,000 - a really cool looking music cue scrimmed in ghostly white images on black horn - called Ballad of the Blues - I loved that cue.

His Tuxedo cues, which are ivory on ebony, regularly sold for $2000 or more. He made some great cues and some gaudy cues too. He had a cue with a machine gun inlay and also one with a Popeye figure. His company used the name "Creative Inventions" and it was exactly that. His older cues have a very unusual joint. Some of his most creative cues involved the use of stone in the points.

http://www.porper.com/ It has his contact information on the bottom right, you can call Joe and ask him about the cue.

I had one back in the late 80's, was a pretty cue. Played terrible. Only cue I regret buying actually.

Sure it was a fluke of a cue.

Thanks everybody. I was unfamiliar with any of his cues, and to be honest, I even wondered if my friend had George and Porper mixed up. From the way he described, I think that the cue in question was vastly overpriced. He was under the impression that it was an older, more rare cue. From what I gathered, it was fairly nondescript. Thanks again for all the info.
