Update on the Des Moines pool scene

For a while, guys in NY were racking with the numbers touching as much as possible under the somewhat dubious notion that the paint/stain whatever was slightly raised and having these two raised areas meeting, gave a slug rack. This came about through trying to figure out why when Frankie racks, you almost never make a ball. They thought that was his secret.

Frankie is the king of the rig rack. Your only chance at making a ball is to play the 1 in the side pocket.

I tried to sandbag and failed miserably but I do urge/support people to sandbag for their own benefit. If you don't like it, then you don't like it.

If you don't have anything going on and don't want to play based on me or others well that's like masturbation, in the end you are only f*cking yourself. You can play well enough to win but I understand if you don't want to play.

My point was, complaining about sandbagging is comparable to complaining about "pattern racking". And, as you found out in Olathe, and most of us already knew, most of the top players do it.

I find it humorous that so many people are concerned with Mike and Jody not playing in a tournament and not "supporting" pool. Two people that have done more for promoting Des Moines pool than most of us.

I am hoping the tournament is successful, and will be attending when I can. Although I am curious to see how long a rebuy tournament will take.

I agree that the two have supported one tourney in the area for many years and kept it going. But there are MANY examples of non support as well.

I'm just giving you a hard time, I feel like over time if we can sustain a big table tournament you, Athens, and Jody will be in attendance and welcome to play. From a tournament perspective you like to see the guys who play well on the big tables playing in the big table tournaments. From a players perspective, considering the ridiculous spots i get from y'all, I'm happy to not have to play even up!

This all is dieing down I believe and hopefully when the dust settles things will be clear and maybe somethings will change.

In a tournament full of pattern racking which was Olathe, I found it very rewarding for Jesse to win. Not because I bought him in the calcutta but because he racks the balls fast and random and just plays the table. He gave himself some pretty bad slug racks and I'd venture to say there were 10 or more guys there who out broke him. He just put the fear of god in every one he played with his style.

I really thought we were done talking about the pattern racking at the sunday tournament thing. Guess i missed something ? Jody and Mike made it clear it is to no advantage to do it and its perfectly legal (in their tournament).

So to compete as everyone says, we all need to buckle down and learn.

As soon as i learn a good pattern i will be posting a flyer in big dogs so everyone knows how to (i dont have the books so i have to learn) I don't need to be a cheap ass and keep this highly non-helpful info to myself. Anyone have any ideas, something simple to start with ?

Like this:
.....1.....
...2..3...
.5..9..6.
...7..8...
.....4....: is what ive been working on at home.

Mike B. i really thought you were just messing around and would actually show up sat and rob the tournament, lol.

First of all props on the rack drawing that would have taken me 20 minutes.

Second this one pocket game for a tourney really does favor the better players but I got a bunch of guys who rarely even play it coming out. As usual we will have a waitress for our tourney and I will also be taking orders for folks.

I'm still throwing $50 in the break and run pot to start it off out of my own pocket. It's gonna pay per ball.

Break contests will be winner take all or chop if the last two want to, someone should win around a 100 bucks at that alone. Sidepot will bump first place up quite a bit to over $300. Not a bad payday possible for a cheap local tourney with no expenses. I can't think of a reason not to play to be honest.

see you later??

see you later??

You won't see me til maybe sat. Looks like i might not be able to make it due to a family matter. We shall see.

Hope everyone has a good evening. Mikey if you wanna bet some tonight on the BTC let me know i will be watching here and there.

Might watch *The last house on the left* tonight.

I will at a funeral dumbass. Nice try. Out of town
You wouldn't have shown up anyway, because you two don't like Mike Frost.

As for you two doing so much for pool in Des Moines, I disagree. You have kept the sunday tourney going, but that's about it. There are other tourneys than the sunday 9-ball, which you two never support with any regularity. You two aren't even going to state! Good thing you played all season to not represent Des Moines at state!! It would be nice if you guys could get over yourselves long enough to just promote more than the sunday tourney.

As far as being called a dumbass, I've been called worse by FAR BETTER people!! Have a nice day:)

I bought the raffle tickets last night. The first $50 in the break and run pot is coming out of my own pocket. It will pay per ball! Break contest and side pots.

Rant on ........ The Magic Rack is &@#&%($ retarded....... rant off.

Good Morning everyone ! :)

You didn't know everyone can make 3-4 balls on break everytime with a magic rack?!? Come on man, thought you knew! Toasty is subject to win the tourney with that paper rack.

Hey guys!

I really would like to play tomorrow, but Naters' gma is turning 80! So we'll be at BIAGGIES for the bday Dinner. I can come up and SUPPORT the tourney before then though. Be neat to see whos playing and to watch some 1hole. And yes Mike F, I typed "NEAT".

Happy Friday all! I'll be working at the POST tonight if anyone of you are interesting in coming out for some fine dinning and entertainment! Plus you can meet the Mayor.

"Fine Dining" you do have a way with words. You beat up on me in one pocket and won't play boo. His grandma will turn 81 next year JK!

I want to be clear. Whatever I say is exactly what I mean. If that turns you off that's cool. If you lost respect for me just ask yourself who the **** is asking you to find it? Before I type whatever I type I always ask myself is the risk worth the reward, and in all cases it has been.

I've staked people, loaned them money, let people play on credit, wait forever to get paid, never get paid back large sums of money, had tournaments with money in them, gamble regularly, and after all the shit I've done and times I have been shitted on I'm still right here.

So Ray if you don't want to play with me or anyone from AZ anymore, good luck to ya. Athens if you can't take an opinion that's different than yours or in opposition of you, good luck to ya. Anyone else who is bothered or offended that wasn't my intention so if any of it did impact you...I'M GLAD and good luck to ya.

Garth Brooks - Against the Grain.
-------------------------------------
Folks call me a maverick
Guess I ain't too diplomatic
I just never been the kind to go along
Just avoidin' confrontation
For the sake of conformation
And I'll admit I tend to sing a different song
But sometimes you just can't be afraid
To wear a different hat
If Columbus had complied
This old world might still be flat
Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained
Sometimes you've got to go against the grain

Well, I have been accused
Of makin' my own rules
There must be rebel blood
Just a-runnin' through my veins
But I ain't no hypocrite
What you see is what you get
And that's the only way I know
To play the game
Old Noah took much ridicule
For building his great ark
But after forty days and forty nights
He was lookin' pretty smart
Sometimes it's best to brave the wind and rain
By havin' strength to go against the grain

Well, there's more folks than a few
Who share my point of view
But they're worried
If they're gonna sink or swim
They'd like to buck the system
But the deck is stacked against 'em
And they're a little scared
To go out on a limb
But if you're gonna make a difference,
if you're gonna leave your mark.
You can't follow like a bunch of sheep
You got to listen to your heart
Go bustin' in like old John Wayne
Sometimes you got to go against the grain

Nothin' ventured, nothin' gained
Sometimes you've got to go against the grain
