we're losing another great room

Very well put Jason. I don't know you but it is most likely you and I have seen each other.
I never gambled there because I don't have skills to gamble. I don't play leagues. All I want is to practice, have good time and try to beat my friend who is 20x better than me. Waitress not respecting because you lost is stupid as you can get.
Seems like they'll be open at least this weekend, maybe we'll have a beer on me. Oh wait, they are out of draft....lol, we'll at least have a drink, may be a guinness, wait they are out of that too.
Kyo

i'm sorry let me clarify, i didn't mean they don't have respect because of the losing, it's the gambling. the servers, for the most part, know nothing about pool or the culture. they only see the gambling, which in a lot of social circles is seen as a questionable practice. as far as the losing, i only meant that it can't have helped anyone's financial bottom line. in other words, no matter how well the business was doing, if you loose enough money (not just on pool is what the story around town is) you can hit a point where your cash flow all around suffers.

yeah, it was no secret that it had been for sale for months. that poor service had a lot to do with what was going on behind the scenes. namely the staff not getting paid. when i started playing there a few years ago it was much different. but when you aren't taking care of your employees they have a hard time caring about taking care of the customers and eventually they leave (which alot of them did).

jrt3004, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. DO NOT SPREAD THIS RUMOR. I HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS SINCE 1993, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT ALL MY EMPLOYEES ARE PAID. SINCE YOU KNOW SO MUCH, CAN YOU NAME ONLY ONE EMPLOYEE OF MINE THAT HAS NOT BEEN PAID.

AS FOR THE TURNOVERS, WELCOME TO THE BAR BUSINESS. THIS BUSINESS HAS THE HIGHEST TURNOVER RATE.

WE HAVE SEVERAL EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN WITH US SINCE WE FIRST OPEN. THESE ARE LOYAL AND HARD-WORKING EMPLOYEES. IF I DIDN'T "TAKE CARE" OF THEM, DO YOU THINK THAT THEY WOULD STICK AROUND?

SO, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU POST.

Yeah, but did you spend $$$?..

Hate to see it go being I live 15min. away but I think most everyone saw it coming.Nice place poor service.

I'm sure some of you did, but the same thing is going on in Houston at a particular place, not as far along as that, but struggling, and the problem is nobody spends any $$$ in the place..

I know if I was opening a business, I would much rather open an Asian restaurant/karaoke bar/whatever, than a pool hall...

Another point...

Any pool hall that caters to pool players is just doomed... Pool players don't have $$$, and when they do, they don't spend it at the pool hall..

Fact of life, sorry..

john i'd love to out the employees who have clamied they weren't being paid. let me talk to them first and ask if it's o.k. to do it here. i can tell you the main people who said it the most aren't there anymore and they weren't fired so it's not they had sour grapes to complain about. as for all of the "loyal" employees, you have there aren't more than three that are still there from the end of 07 when i started coming in that i can see. don's been gone. habbi's gone. cali is still there and vic and corlee. who else? and from what it looks like from what happened in there last thursday corlee might not be there. a week ago tuesday you had employees walking around telling all of us in there that they had all been fired. then come next monday a few of them are back saying they got called back in. and i understand turnover in the service industry. i started as a dishwasher/prep cook and worked my way up to sous chef. spent almost a decade in the life. your staff's problem isn't turnover, it's giving away your profit. why don't you take ten minutes to clarify what is going on in the room. at least with your regulars. or how about with your leagues. that's great you can come here and type in capitals and scream at me, but when the questions are asked all us patrons here is uhhh, well, maybe a week, maybe a month. and if things aren't screwed up in your system how come you have had a half empty shelf on your bar for weeks. why are you out of half the beers and some of the food. why haven't the tables been refelted in so long no one can remember the last time it was done? oh sure the front row when you walk in the front of the house has been done. but how about the tables in the back? i have said since i started this thread the things i had heard or seen my self and the things i can't speak to personally. the room has been in a funk for month's now. i am not putting any old rummor in the air. these are things i have seen or heard from people who work there now or have worked there in the past. if you think i am spreading rummor - i can tell you there are a bunch of rummors floating around i'd be happy to tell you about in private message and let you refute them. don't be pissed at me. this is the largest and best forum to put the truth out there - so have at it. to those of us who love and support your business we'd love to know what is going on. i have had people say "we can go play at dave and busters" are you f*cking kidding me? i would stand in front of the pool room in a blizzard in a t-shirt and shorts and beg you not to change one thing in that room before i pissed on the door at a dave and busters. this thread wasn't started with malice it was started with sadness. what we are saying as customers, appearantly to no one who is listening, is we don't want to lose the room. there are not that many good rooms in the country. and everyone who has walked through your doors feels you have one of the best. so i ask you here and now let us know the story. and just so i am not a namless faceless accuser, my name and nickname are in my sigline (name jason, nickname evil) i go about 5'10 300lbs. i am in there mon. apa, tues. bca, and tonight thurs. apa. i have tatoos on both arms and the cue i shoot with is my avatar. you and i have passed each other many times and you'll know me by sight. i have been a loyal customer coming into your place for a minimum of three to four nights a week and as often as i can during lunch. i played in your in house wednesday league run by don when he was there and in the in house 8 ball tournaments you have had. i have reccomended your place to every man, woman and child who said they were passing through this area. so there you have it. i am not hard to miss. i ain't no little b*tch to do this in hiding. feel free to talk to me about the truth of what's going on, although i'd prefer you did that here so everyone can read it, and if you want face to face i'd be happy to tell you who said what.

Anything new with purple rain? Seriously JOHN, when are you going to close???

so it's official. and everything that had been said is pretty much true. the new ownership addressed our bca league tonight. the new restaraunt will not be asian. it will be a martini/tapas bar and have between 6 and 13 tables in the back for "upscale" entertainment. they are working with the architects now doing the planning, then permit pulling and finally construction. matter of about a month or so before the pool room in duluth is gone. like i've said before, not that many high end pool rooms - you been to atlanta lately? do we really need another f*ckin' tapas bar? and didn't the martini bar craze pretty much s*it the bed already. i know they were hot three or four years ago when i was still in the restaraunt business but i thought that was pretty much done. oh and as for the loyal staff - anyone who may have been there is definately gone now. lots of good looking new talent, who still have their heads up thier asses and couln't even make a good drink or get an order right. at least they were hot and wearing next to nothing, it made the crap service at least a little more tollerable.

I got to vent. Not because I've met a lot of good people there and made some friends.
They have no idea how to run a business.
If the new owner is reading this, I bet he isn't, but LEARN HOW TO FIGURE S**T OUT.

You kept from my knowledge, two people. One is a alcoholic manager that gets s**t faced and falls on the floor right by table 9 in front of everyone, another is new waitress that you hired a month ago.
So you kept incompetent manager, from customers' view and fired all the people that had it going.
Good luck to you, and you are going to need it. We are going to drive 20 extra min to goto Mr. Cues.

Daniel and Tori, if you see this, PM me, because Tomo and I would like to buy you a drink and shoot pool at Mr. Cues.
Kyo
Vent over.
P.S. Jason, I'll drive to buckhead if I wanted to drink Martinis.

Don't know their last name. If you could PM me, that would be great.

Thanks,

WOW...all this crying over a pool room closing down...oh wait...changing hands...NOT the same thing as closing down! Wake up buddy...it wasn't YOUR pool room, it was under a different ownership...which means they have the right to do what ever they feel the need to do. I've been in this business for the last 26 years....and what's happening is call "evolution"! It happens daily, weekly, monthly...and yearly....that's why it's call "BUSINESS" The owners don't OWE YOU anything, and that includes any explanation as to their business choices.

Everyone was upset when the "Comet" closed, well guess what? NO alcohol, no food, JUST POOL....what in the hell were THEY thinking? Yesterdays pool rooms are going fast, making way for these new places to play pool....that are NOT all about pool anymore...SO, as fatboy likes to say..."either your ON the train....or your UNDER it....so pick a side".

Would you rather instead of the "Purple Rain" having SOME pool tables....they decided to have NONE at all?

At least give them the benefit of doubt that they MAY just know something you DON'T know....after all....it is THEIR money...and THEIR business!

When you heard the place was up for sale....why didn't YOU make an offer to buy it???????

Glen

glen,
i've met you and you seem like an ok guy but what you're typing there seems mildly insulting to me. i am not a f*cking retard i understand things change, i know it's their business to with what they wish, and i own my own f*cking company already, that's where my cash is. and yes they will have a few tables, it will not be a pool room.
i moved to atlanta a few years ago and the place has been a big part of my life since i moved here. almost all of the people i know and are friends with i met there. SO IT IS A BIG F*CKING DEAL TO ME GLEN. now you know why all the "crying". funny you seemed much nicer when i met you. guess i was wrong. thanks for the support though glen. that's what i love about the az community, guys like you who just have a shoulder for others to lean on, an ear to listen. and believe me buddy if your ever back here in atlanta and you need something you just let me know, i'll help any way i can. i know some jackass who got banned was riding you pretty hard in another thread, but that wasn't me all i've done is said nice things about ya since i met ya. should i change that now?

Has anyone been to The Pool Room since the ownership change? Any of the old staff still there?

They are all gone except two or three (I thought I saw one girl before).
I was there last Thursday, haven't been there since.
Met and played with Jrt30004. I think they are keeping all the tables till end of the month. Heard something about changing all their felt to purple.....

WTF I didn't know that The Pool Room was closing! I just was there like two weeks ago. It was a nice place. I did hate the no smoking policy, but that's Gwinnett County. Hell-bent on never having anywhere fun to hang out. I wonder if they're selling their tables cheap...

All you league players should come back down to mr. cues. Thursday night nine ball needs two divisions again.

I hate tapas bars.

what's up kyo! i didn't recognize any of those chicks waiting tables. i know anna and khan from before (but they are owners not staff) you shoulda been up there last night. they took over the juke box and were playing a mix of spanish, indian and big band music. holy f*cking WOW!

Jason,
I was gonna go but decide not to and went home. May be Sat, but I am pretty sure I'll be there next Monday. We'll play after if your league is still playing. I'll make sure not to be taking shots after shots so I can actually see the 8-ball this time (yes, I still have nightmare and voice of you saying "nice run" right before I missed). Spanish and Indian music sounds dandy. At least they are making money on jukebox downloads.

Two of the waitress are the Asian girl I was playing when you came over and other is the girl that was getting you and I drinks.
See ya.
Kyo

EDIT>>> Jason, how's your new table?
