Gonna start doing my own tips. Whats the best glue to use?
Anything I need to know before I start? any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

First thing is dont rush ! Make sure you face off the ferrule perfect and sand the tip flat so as to have perfect contact between the two. If you dont have a perfect meeting between the tip and ferrule then the glue wont matter, it can easily pop off. I use Loctite Gel for my tips and Ive never had any problems, though you will want to experiment and see what works best for you. The glue is subjective for everyone.

Many people use loctite gel, myself included. Loctite has a few different types and the one that I found to be best is the "Ultra Gel" as it is supposedly is rubberized so as to take shock a little better. Some use the "Control Gel" but it does not have this rubber in it.

I ran out of the regular CA and bought a few bottles of Loctite Ultra Gel.
Glad to hear that others like it too.

I know that I will probably come off as an a$$ on this, but the search function is your friend here:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=4199071

A little tip for the 3 letter searches (tip, cue, etc.), just add an * to the end of the word.

- Tip*
- Cue*
- etc*

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Frank

You didnt come off sounding like an a$$ I tell people the same thing in the main forum all the time. But the forum is called "ASK a cuemaker". Not search the cuemaker forum.

Maybe there could be some way of grouping similar threads about tips or glues or what ever so that when people want to find out,the previously posted threads can more easily be searched.

Either way you don't need to do your own tips, if Sylver wins you can just send me the shafts and if Gabe wins I give you a good discount to make you feel better. And thats the truth and good luck, if you try it yourself tape the ferrule with blue painters tape while sanding and trimming the tip sides. At least till you get the feel of it and you need a freshly sanded level ferrule and tip bottom for the glue to work good.--pm for anything else--Leonard

You make a good point. I have thought about this at times and if everyone used the search feature there would be almost no new posts. That is because almost every question asked has already been covered multiple times. So I guess the forum would just die off if everyone used the search features. I just wish I was good enough at the search features to find my old responses and copy and paste them at times, as I type really slow.

I totally agree with you in this aspect. I only get a little upset when someone asks a question that was thoroughly discussed just a few days before.
