Not the place I remeber by a long shot. He used to have poker machines drinking and if you were a member of the Scorpio Club, I think you could get just about anything you wanted! Maybe even afew things you didn't.

As much of an expert as he might have been his greatest gift was his story telling of times gone by. I used to just hang out with him on Sat. mornings just to watch him do repairs and tell stories.

Larry

That is so true! He was such a wonderful storyteller. I was lucky to have met him, and his Father (quite a character his self) when I was just a wee lad. They often stopped by the bar my Father, and Mother worked at (Amvets Post 31). I'll tell you one thing. It was impossible for him to enter a place without being noticed. He could comand a room. I heard him tell the Mexico hustle story quite a few times. He layed it down great! They cleaned out the place. Played all night. They left with bags of cash! They were driving down the road bragging about the luxury items they were going to buy. The problem was that they had been paid in Pesos. I can't remember how much Tucker said they ended up with, but think it was a few hundred dollars. He would have you crying by the end of most of his stories. He was also a very charitable man who helped many a regular, and visiting pool player that was down on his luck. We sure miss him!. Thanks for starting this thread.

when i was just 13 years old eldridge gave me my first cue..It was a palmer and the year was i think 1966. He was in business with my family for years back in the day..Hoof-n-Horns and the aristcrate club..My mom used to drop me off at the old pool room on remount road and i would
hang around and watch him do cue repair..I sure miss him and the old pool room.

If I understand the video, he owns the real estate - grocery store, bar and apartments.

Is there any motivation to have a profitable pool hall rather than a watering hole for friends?

Calling it Tucker's Billiard Supply & Manufacturing is not going to attract anyone who doesn't know about it.

Good on the owner!! looks like a freat place and people there look to be havin fun and thats really all that matters. If I were well off (money wise) I would be doing the same thing, good clean place where theres no riffraff, people having fun and honing there skill,
just having a good time. If people donate a few bucks to him for up keep that would be great. I would KILL!!! to find a place like that here in Calgary

When I'm back in the chips again, after a couple years of travelling if I decided to move back to America I might try something like that but on a much larger scale, buy a 50,000sqft building and rent out 66% of it leaving me about 15,000 sqft. Id have free pool 5 nights a week and 7 days a week, thre cheapest possible beer and soda's and food. I bet I could in the right market cover my nut(including payroll) with a model similar to that. It would take some time to hone it just right and hit the sweet spot. The hardeest trick would be the GM (gen manager), since I never go to any of my businesses I have to rely on the right people.

giveing customers 20% off for using a debit card would eliminate most of the cash-therefore the risk of stealing.

Ideas like that and keeping the place full constantly would be key, it would have a high energy vibe the whole time. sux for serious players-so I'd build a 4-6 players room off to the side for action and charge $1/hr per player. and free soda pops for the players paying time.
