Cloth/Felt Suggestion

I'm trying to get the community center here on base to redo the tables and need a suggestion for the cloth. I'm just a pool player so I don't know the differences in the higher end cloth. All I hear is that 860 is the standard, it's the best, etc. On the other hand, I've recently heard that some other cloth has the same or better quality standards (i.e. consistent weight across the piece) for less cost.

Since most tournaments and pool halls I know of use 860 or 860HR, is there a cloth out there that is a better value, has a speed equal to 860, and lasts longer?

Also, the lower the price the better so I can help convince the management to bite.

Thanks in advance for your input.

cloth

generally championship cloth has gained the reputation of being as good as simonis, and many a pool room owner is using it. why. because 1. its a little less expensive, 2. is fairly sturdy, 3. looks as good as simonis, 4. is easily stretchable. the best grade is championship tour edition, but you might look into the titan, and ultra series. if your putting this on a pool talbe on a military base its going to get a lot of rough play by players who dont exactly care about the speed qualities. so if you're goal is longevity of cloth i'd go with the championship titan or ultra.

Nevermind..sorry

Yea when people that know nothing about cloth feel a need to answer questions in
the Talk to a Mechanic section I'll nevermind just a little bit too.

Championship as good as Simonis? :rotflmao1:
There is not 1 Champ style of cloth comparable in speed to 860 nor is
there a better top quality cloth in the marketplace then Simonis.

For comparable speed in a good quality worsted cloth at considerably lower price
look into Velocity Pro or Aramith Tournament cloth.

Do you know exactly how much they are willing to spend on re-cushion and re- clothing, that way we could tell you what you get for the budget they have.

Sadly no. The upper management has been fairly unresponsive about the tables so far. The community center manager is all for it but he doesn't control the budget or purchases.

I do know that they want to do 1 table at a time to spread out the cost and leave at least 3 tables available to play on.

By the way, thanks for being patient Bob. I hope they take you up on your offer.

... .

Do you know if the center manager put in a formal request for materials?
Nothing in the government happens without paperwork. If a request is not on file it won't get funded/purchased.
When all else fails installations put requests like this on the year-end wish list based on availabilty
of extra funding that may be received and has to be commited by the last day of the fiscal year (9/30).
You might try to find whoever heads the MRW office (community center should fall under this) and put a bug in their ear.

This is an Air Force base and minor expenses (below 25k) are handled by cardholders and squadron commanders/unit chiefs designated in each unit.

The commander/chief (no idea who it is for this unit) authorizes the cardholder's purchases only after a 3 way comparison is conducted and any necessary justifications have been made. Bob, you wouldn't happen to be a disabled veteran small business owner are you? That would get you on the top of the list... unless a woman disabled veteran small business owner mechanic is available lol.

Just installed Velocity Pro on my table...they named it right. I think it could be faster than the 860. I'm very happy with it and for the price I could replace it almost twice.
