Tournament question...on a forfeit

Last night at a local tourny the tourny director (A) had a match playing someone (B) to advance in the bracket to play for the hotseat.

Player (C) had already won his match to advance to play for hotseat.

OK....player (B) beats the tourny (A) director, then turns to him and says "Why don't you just take that match as it's getting late" and leaves.

Tourny director advances himself on winners side.

Player C gets pissed, saying that he should have to play player B, as he won the match. (and player B is a lesser skilled player too) And that he should advance to hotseat due to a forfeit.

He leaves and takes 3rd place cash....pissed.

I agree 100%.....just wondering your thoughts? I think as long as the match was completed it's history. The fellow should have forfeited before the match, or during. Not after....

What should have happened in your opinion?

The tourney director is knocked out, he doesn't get to play any more.

Player C should win the hotseat by forfeit, he is now in the finals.

There you go!

Player A (TD) had no business advancing himself as the winner of a match he lost.

I'd organize a lynch party and hang the a$$hole. :grin-square:

In my opinion, Tournament Directors have NO business playing in tournaments they are directing...PERIOD!!!

As the Tournament Director you have a job to do...do it with conviction or don't do it at all.

This eliminates the possibility of comprimising the intergrity of the game and the tournament.

What he said. That is the root of the problem right there.

Yeah....but this is low budget! T.D. gets free pooltime, and entry into tourny.

T.D. told bar management what occured, (after stink arose) and they sided with T.D. saying it was OK

It WAS a Dbl elimination tourny BTW.......

I agree.. there is more consistency with DE and SE brackets at most tournaments. These brackets are easy to get from a variety of internet websites. I've even seen triple elimination brackets available.

Rules... another good inconsistency in pool.
Sometimes TD are forced to use rules the Owner wants to use. Sometimes the TD has to use 'house rules' ones that the players are use to remembering from years of playing and not really knowing what rules are.

What is a good set of rules to use? World Standard Rules (WPA) or League rules (and then which league?)

What about using the Pro's rules.. (ok men's or women's?)

I agree that player C should get the hotseat by forfeit, and player A should have to play for winner of the losers bracket if there is one.

On the other side of the coin.... why is it that the brackets are basically the same everywhere you go, but TD feel it's perfectly O.K. to make up their own rules?? Why can't the rules ever get to be the same everywhere you go??
